The idea of ‘guided reading’ in the Science of Reading foundation classroom is a simple, yet muti-faceted proposition. Written by the Babcock LDP Primary Literacy team, No Nonsense Spelling provides sufficient guidance to implement an effective spelling teaching programme from Year 2 to Year 6. There are examples of writing from Y1 to Y6 all of which have been assessed using our Evidence Gathering Sheets and statutory criteria for Y2 and Y6.This means that each Teacher Book needs to ‘stand alone’ as well as form part of a cohesive whole programme. The new spelling solution from Raintree, No Nonsense Spelling, meets the needs of teachers looking to improve spelling standards at KS2. These are used by schools to support teachers who are moving year groups, to raise and set expectations and to support standardisation, assessment and moderation procedures in school. The fact that it’s easy to follow and quick to resource makes this scheme both useable and great value for money.

It’s very clear on the rules and patterns you have to follow, but then also makes clear activities you can use to help teach that spelling pattern. The programme breaks down the curriculum requirements into termly overviews with individual lesson plans and resources.I talked about the need to focus on skill development rather than ‘reading levels’ for our beginning readers and exactly what you can teach them at each stage of their reading development. Please advise us on booking if you have already purchased a pack: if that is the case, you will only be charged the course fee. Pupil Book 5+ introduces the letter/s-sound correspondences as shown on the front cover via Multi-skills Activities pages. One of the big questions I hear Foundation (Kindergarten/prep/pre-primary/reception/transition) Teachers ask is, “When should children be writing sentences?

Guidance, rather than prescription, is provided on how to teach the strategies, knowledge and skills pupils need to learn. Always start at the beginning of the ‘best fit’ book and complete all the activities to secure maximum benefit including learning new vocabulary and constantly building up knowledge of spelling word banks. Each box includes: 5 teacher books of pathways and flexible lessons (one for each year group); a USB stick containing editable versions of all the activities and resources and video guidance from the lead author on how to use the programme in your school. Children’s spelling is improving across the county, and Kent managed to equal National performance in the SPAG test in 2016 for the first time. Contains editable resources and video guidance from Babcock LDP, with a teacher's book for each year, Years 2-6. It is highly recommended that the teacher reads through the Teacher Book for any particular Pupil Book in its entirety to assimilate all the guidance and content before using the Pupil Books with the learner or learners.
