With a close affinity to their fanbase it’s actions such as diligence, where practically and logistically possible, to the re-organisation of postponed dates that engender allegiance within the ranks. The Monster Roars by Magnum: genuinely lovely, with a silky-smooth underbelly". Metal Hammer. 12 January 2022 . Retrieved 19 January 2022. Their first successful album was the Jeff Glixman produced Chase the Dragon (1982), which reached #17 in the UK, [2] and included several songs that would be mainstays of the band's live set, including "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". Glixman was previously known for his work with Kansas, and this was the first Magnum release to feature the artwork of fantasy artist Rodney Matthews. The tour included a support slot in February with Krokus, on their One Vice at a Time UK tour. A few United States dates were played during the summer of 1982, supporting labelmate Ozzy Osbourne. The band returned to the UK in July for their own headlining tour. [11] The epic sweep of ‘Your Blood is Violence’ gives bass player Dennis Ward a chance to bring a huge groove and his vocals perfectly add to the outstanding display of Catley, the harmonies lifting ever skywards and the whole an album highlight of immaculate storytelling.

Whilst a good number of those venues have passed into history Magnum, via a hiatus of just over five years, have mercifully endured with half their studio output being released since their 2001 reformation. Come set end a balanced, pragmatic will have been presented.Offiziellecharts.de – Magnum – The Monster Roars" (in German). GfK Entertainment Charts. Retrieved 21 January 2022. Heath, Alan. Engraved upon the dark wooden frame of the bed familiar symbology; through a mirror comes a familiar face looking, not at the past, but at the future with zeal. Making a long-awaited, this year, to the setlist ‘The Flood (Red Cloud’s War)’ is as awakening as ever. Ethereal eddies sinuously compose themselves bleeding together with strongarm six-stringing and rhythms. A rampaging Clarkin solo burns brightly amongst. Budgetary constraints at Jet denied Magnum the use of an outside producer for 1983's Clarkin-produced The Eleventh Hour, which peaked at UK #38. [2] A UK tour started in May 1983, featuring additional guitarist Robin George for live performances. Magnum also appeared at the 1983 Reading Festival, with George. However, Jet was unhappy about the sales figures of The Eleventh Hour, and refused to support another album or finance a tour. A firm alliance has been forged between Magnum and themselves. In fact, it’s the 17 th time that this Staffordshire duo have supported Magnum over a connection founded well over three years ago. The two brothers are all about having fun and entertaining. From the off they’re in the faces of the Fleece crowd; exploding onto stage to Reel 2 Real’s ‘I Like To Move It’, beloved of the Madagascar film franchise, Kyle lifts an ‘Applause’ board. The crowd, with a loud cheer, are firmly on board. ‘Manic Scream’ anyone?

In 1995, Clarkin announced Magnum's split; however, Clarkin and Catley continued working together, now under the name Hard Rain, until 1999. Magnum reformed in 2001 and has enjoyed late-career commercial success. Their most recent album, The Monster Roars, was released in January 2022. Scott Morgan Discography". Tony Clarkin’s songwriting for the band still reigns supreme but whether consciously or not the recurring motif of ‘Remember’ recalls (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. At least it’s not Saxon! Elsewhere, there are similarities with previous (recent) offerings; ‘Remember’ also recalls ‘The Archway Of Tears’ from ‘The Serpent Rings’. We put our heart and soul into it and it’s pretty good I think:Interview with Tony Clarkin, Stargazed Magazine, May 2020. Retrieved 26 Oct 2020. Shrouded in a rich purple cloak The Storyteller grasps the Sword of Chaos firmly in his right hand. He surveys the scene, there is striking sonority; no kings among them nor broken hearted clowns. Lifted from 2020’s ‘The Serpent Rings’ the prog-pomp splendour of ‘The Archway Of Tears’ has waited patiently for two years to be played live. A majesty of mellifluous craft. The quintet enquires ‘Where Are You Eden?’ in trademark style. Tony’s solo is imperious, beyond compare; intricate yet seemingly straightforward. A symphonic undercurrent pins as the heterochromatic eyed serpent coils upon the second bass drum of Lee’s impressive kit. A veritable percussive fortress. Clarkin, Tony & Ling, David (2006). In 2021 Dutch band Leap Day recorded the song 'May 5th', which can be seen as a tribute to Magnum. This evening, the Midlanders embark on a pre-Christmas set of four dates; tonight, is a rescheduled date from September’s tour which was, most sensibly, postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Sandwiched in between this and Saturday’s 50 th anniversary festive show in Wolverhampton are two further dates that have been re-arranged from April when a band member tested positive for Covid.
