I remember reading the Curse of Pleadon target book when I was a kid and when I finally saw it for the very first time which was the DVD release it did not disappoint! The Direct Route: Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s. The Mind of Evil Episode One is from a hand-colourised B/W film telerecording, with the cliffhanger and remaining episodes colour-recovered using the chromadots. I have “clean” artwork on the other sets but the spine imagine for S8, S12 (2nd EDT) and S23 all contain the villains and as you say S8 is marginally higher and just seems bigger than the others.

Almost despite this, it managed to produce three stories that are justifiably regarded as classics – but the show needed cohesion, it needed a sense of continuity from story to story and Season 8 was where that would come about. For anyone such as myself who grew up reading Target novelisations and watching Doctor Who then it is difficult to quantify his significant impact. Season 8 is a collection of big, brash, colourful romps, the Season 7 template softened by the introduction of warmer and more intriguing regular characters (although there’s an argument to suggest that The Master, appearing in every serial, becomes a little overused). Devils Weekend - Actors Katy Manning and John Levene take a personal trip back to the picturesque village of Aldbourne, 50 years after they recorded the Doctor Who story The Daemons there. She teamed up really well with John Levene and Richard Franklin on series 10 maybe that trio again for 9?This is pretty much Barry Letts’ statement of intent for the series, with a strong core team of characters orbiting around a fascinating story – and it works like a charm. Over the whopping EIGHT discs there is a wealth of additional features; studio footage, treats from the archive including BBC production files, convention footage, photo galleries, scripts, costume designs and even more.

Coming Soon: The Android Invasion/Invasion of the Dinosaurs removed; likely to appear on Seasons 11 and/or 13.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Decided to get the standard edition of this blu ray set as the limited editions are getting too expensive, you get exactly the same content on each disc, the only difference is a slimmer case and the booklet has less pages.

If theres a new announcement by the end of the year we might not have to wait until june next year for season 24 in standard. It’s a well-meaning story with some great acting from Pertwee, Manning and Delgado, but it trundles along at such a stately pace that it’s difficult to actually love. The costumes for the primitives work well enough, but the Alien High Priest, which looks fantastic in photographs, falls down when it has to move and reveals itself for what it is – a rather stiffly-operated puppet. The Direct Route - Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s.I haven’t watched the sun makers, underworld or the invasion of time in quite sometime so it wouldn’t be nice to watch those again. Another new but hopefully regular feature is The Direct Route which sees Doctor Who directors, in this case Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe, on a road trip around the filming locations from Season 8. That aside I am very happy with this release as I am big Pertwee era fan despite McCoy having been my Doctor. The original VHS contained colour footage highlights and a restoration credit sequence, neither of which have been reissued digitally.
