Description

The MSI Optix MAG301RF 21:9 ultrawide Gaming monitor is built to step your game up by giving you extra POV to enhance your peripheral vision. With a 2560x1080 resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, enjoy the latest AAA title games the way it was meant with gorgeous details that span across your entire peripheral view. The MSI Optix MAG301RF gaming monitor relies on a fast refresh rate of up to 200 Hz and a response time of 1 ms GtG – and that when using an IPS panel. At 2,560 × 1,080 pixels, the resolution is between WQHD and FHD and ensures a wide aspect ratio of 21: 9. Unlike the MSI MPG Artymis 343CQR (test) with 34 inches, 3,440 × 1,440 pixels and 165 Hz, the manufacturer has installed a flat display in the MAG301RFDE. While the MSI MAG301RF has a 29.5″ viewable screen in diagonal, its 21:9 aspect ratio actually makes it as tall as a regular 24″ 16:9 monitor, just with ~33% extra width. The stand of the monitor is sturdy and ergonomic with up to 130mm height adjustment, -5°/20° tilt, +/- 45° swivel and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility.

The resolution of 2,560 × 1,080 called WFHD Pixels ensures a pixel density of around 94 ppi at 29.5 inches. 27-inch monitors with 2,560 × 1,440 pixels have a higher pixel density of 109 ppi. The MSI model is therefore more comparable with a 31.5-inch WQHD display (2,560 × 1,440 pixels) that achieves 93 ppi. Resolution Aspect ratio Number of pixels Pixel density 3,840 × 2,160 (UHD) 16: 9 8.29 million 163 ppi at 27 inches 3,840 × 2,160 (UHD) 16: 9 8.29 million 140 ppi at 31.5 inches 3,440 × 1,440 (UWQHD) 21: 9 4.95 million 110 ppi at 34 inches 2,560 × 1,440 (WQHD) 16: 9 3.67 million 109 ppi at 27 inches 2,560 × 1,440 (WQHD) 3.67 million 93 ppi at 31.5 inches 2,560 × 1,080 (WFHD) 21: 9 2.76 million 94 ppi at 29.5 inches 1,920 × 1,080 (FHD) 16: 9 2.07 million 82 ppi at 27 inches 1,920 × 1,080 (FHD) 2.07 million 92 ppi at 24 inches MSI's Optix MAG301RF features an IPS panel with a size of 29.5 inches diagonally and a variable refresh rate of up to 200 Hz. The monitor is officially G-Sync compatible and also supports Adaptive Sync for AMD graphics cards, although MSI doesn't explicitly mention this. This allows users of all graphics card manufacturers to take advantage of the screen's potential. There were no problems with either AMD or Nvidia in the test. The refresh rate is variable in the range from 48 to 200 Hz. The horizontal and vertical viewing angles are 178 degrees each. The panel has a resolution of 2560 × 1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 21: 9 and, according to MSI, a response time of 1 ms gray to gray. The contrast should be typical for IPS at 1,000: 1, the manufacturer only specifies the brightness at 300 cd/m², which is comparatively low. The test person is not HDR-certified, but can process HDR signals. In view of the low luminance, this is only relevant for marketing, because it is not enough for HDR effects in everyday life. For the connections, the monitor relies on a DisplayPort 1.2a and two HDMI 2.0b inputs. With a native resolution of 2,560 × 1,080 pixels, 200 Hz can only be achieved via the DisplayPort. A maximum refresh rate of 180 Hz is possible via the HDMI inputs. The console mode used by MSI in more and more new monitors allows up to 120 Hz for current game consoles via HDMI. Without HDMI 2.1 and UHD, the test subject cannot exploit the potential of the new consoles. Ultrawide monitors, such as the MSI Optix MAG301RF, offer a much wider POV and fill your entire peripheral vision. Furthermore, because of the monitor's FHD capabilities, details are crisp and sharp throughout the entire display. This provides an incredibly immersive experience that will make gaming an absolute pleasure. Gaming HUB

Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS). Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches.High Dynamic Range (HDR) display delivers better color and contrast accuracy. Optix MAG274QRF-QD is equipped with HDR technology that can produce images with more details, a wider range of colors, and look more similar to what is seen by the human eye when compared to traditional monitors. The 30" size for me is just about perfect, but I can see why people might prefer a 34" monitor. However, I have quite a small desk and I don't think a bigger monitor would fit. The stand is sturdy and easy to set up. Gaming OSD App allows you to control your monitor display under a software window. You can even customize display settings for different software in the app. It will then automatically apply the presets once you start using the software. Last but not least, the Gaming OSD App allows you to use in-game hotkeys to adjust display settings.

The colors are vivid, consistent and accurate, covering the entire sRGB color space with minor extension beyond it (105% sRGB). Optix monitors are equipped with a 200hz refresh rate and 1 ms GTG response time Rapid IPS panel which has the most benefit in fast moving game genres such as first person shooters, fighters, racing sims, real-time strategy, and sports. These type of games require very fast and precise movements, which an ultra-high refresh rate and fast response time monitor will put you ahead of your competition. Variable refresh rate (VRR) is supported with both AMD’s FreeSync Premium (48-200Hz) and NVIDIA’s G-SYNC Compatible (60-200Hz) certifications, ensuring tear-free gameplay as long as you’re within the supported VRR range; LFC takes over below that. The operating altitude shows the maximum admissible altitude, at which the display will function flawlessly. Above this level it might not operate properly and/or might seize to function.

Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. The OPTIX MAG301RF has a 29.5-inch panel that resolves at 2,560 x 1,080 pixels (WFHD), denoting that it also has a 21:9 aspect ratio. The so-called 'Rapid IPS' panel has 1 ms (grey to grey) response times and a 200 Hz peak refresh rate, which should make it ideal for gaming. Similarly, HDMI-CEC support should make it simple to power cycle the monitor and a console simultaneously. To start, I love how much more I can see compared to a normal monitor. It really makes a difference to the immersion when gaming. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage.

The MSI MAG301RF is the first 30″ 2560×1080 ultrawide monitor with a fast 1ms GtG pixel response time speed and a high refresh rate, which is why it’s perfect for competitive gaming. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. various game profiles, LED lighting USB-C Power Delivery (15 W), blue light filter, VESA mount (100 × 100 mm), However, some competitive games don’t support ultrawide resolutions due to this competitive advantage, though there are only a few of them (Overwatch, StarCraft and Valorant as far as the popular titles go). Gradients produced no noticeable banding, and viewing angles were okay-but-not-great – about what you’d expect for a VA panel. Since the monitor is so wide and the curve is more subtle, you might find the edges distort a bit in color if you sit too close – I had to sit a little over 2 ½ feet away for everything to look right in the viewing angle test. FreeSync worked beautifully with my test animations, even with my NVIDIA graphics card.
