Matching games are great for older kids and adults because it helps strengthen the memory muscle. Often you’ll be surprised at how much better young children are at remembering where the matching cards are in the game. What is the matching game? The game consists of pairs of images, words or numbers, usually on cards. The total number of cards is usually between 20 and 72, often with 36-50 total cards being the most common. I’m a great believer that if you want your kids to read then you need to give them stuff that they like – we started off on the Marvel World of Reading books which were brilliant and I found it easy to work out which level my son needed, through the DC Super Friends Books (still being read after three or four years), the Marvel Character Encyclopedia and umm… I recently left out a copy of Spider-Gwen that my son found and read. He enjoyed it but I do have to be careful what’s left about now – no Deadpool!

Our Batman science activity is a favourite of my kids and one that keeps them entertained for ages too. As both my kids love superheros we’ve managed to make our way through quite a lot of superhero themed books over the last few years, either ones we’ve bought or ones that we’ve borrowed from the library. All the cards are placed in a grid with the images face down. The size of the grid isn’t important, but is most often constructed in the shape of a square or rectangle. There are two copies of each card set. This allows you to play a game with as many cards as you’d like. You can play with 24 cards (12 pairs) or as many as 120 cards (60 pairs). You can also choose levels of play in between. It’s your choice. Matching games are great for younger children. It helps them learn to pay attention to identifying characteristics and build their memory skills.Level up your match-3 skills with Puzzle Ops and take on challenging skill-based puzzles! Each puzzle comes with different clear requirements so every board is unique! Be sure that you print out two of each card set so that you have pairs to search for in your game cards.
