As for a new book that I'm excited about, Jessica Andrews' Milk Teeth - her follow-up to award-winning debut novel Saltwater - would have to be it. It is that - the impossibly gorgeous language that is hard to define - and the way this book grapples with so many heavy themes, all of them ghosts that trail through her life, still able to graze their phantom hands against the reins of her life.

Dynamics of class, caste, religion, sexuality and more come up and intertwine which each other before they're swept underneath the carpet again - but the lump is now forever visible much like the warp on the nice notebook of Ira's which met with the rains. The book captures the changing spirit of Bombay/ Mumbai through political events and the (re)development of its urban landscape that provides a backdrop to the story of Ira and Kartik. The Financial Times and its journalism are subject to a self-regulation regime under the FT Editorial Code of Practice. En conséquence, toutes les commandes passées en ligne entre le 26 et le 31 janvier seront retardées. The book started well, with different charecters gradually revealing themselves against the backdrop of ever changing Mumbai. At no point did I see any semblance of authenticity in the character development, and it comes across as very pretentious. Years later, living in tiny rented rooms and working in noisy bars across London and Paris, she fights to create her own life.

Between and around them throbs the living, beating heart of Mumbai, city of heaving inequities and limitless dreams. There’s a claustrophobia about the narrative effectively conveying her mental state, a self-absorption that accompanies her turmoil uncomfortably portrayed. For me personally, it is amongst the best articulations of how it felt to grow up middle class in an emerging India. In all the ways we try to voice things out of the body, exorcising them through all our guilts, dissatisfactions, traumas and then some, what is that very next step? After reading positive reviews i thought of reading this book and was expecting it to be a good one.But it's wrapped up most adroitly- telling the tale with what needed to be told, leaving you the hint of a tease to let your imagination wander and enough to think about.
