Last summer, my son and I were sent a set of Gravitrax toys for review and ended up loving this elaborate and creative toy. Today, we’re still playing with it regularly and have been taking a look at six of the latest GraviTrax expansions now available to make your GraviTrax system even more impressive than ever before. GraviTrax CORE, PRO or POWER? Preferably all three, of course. But one thing at a time. First of all, we would like to introduce the three different GraviTrax lines here and answer the most frequently asked questions: Which GraviTrax products are suitable for beginners? What is the difference between GraviTrax PRO and POWER? From what age can you start having fun with GraviTrax? GraviTrax has been nominated for awards in Europe, and surely will get some in North America as well. This is our toy of 2019 to date, and with only a few months before the holiday season, it’s likely going to capture that top spot! One Scoop Piece (in seven pieces – this is the only expansion that requires significant construction before first use)

Despite its enthusiasm, the Scoop is remarkably consistent and worked perfectly every time we tried it. GraviTrax is a toy I love and will recommend again and again, and these expansions will serve to make it even better. Note all scientific terminology has been provided by my teen and I take no responsibility for its accuracy! The set comes with a large book of construction plans, graded by difficulty level. When you are familiar with the different pieces and how they fit together you can move onto the tasks. These ask you to complete layouts by solving a variety of challenges which are graded by difficulty, for example working out how many height tiles you need to add or which elements are missing.

I was surprised with the consistency here, simply because of how energetic this expansion is. I expected the marbles to go flying off all over the place, but they went where they were supposed to the vast majority of the time. Channel Islands, including Jersey and Guernsey (Sark, Alderney and Herm are an additional 1 days delivery from Guernsey) 48 Hour Dispatch ServiceWe also talked about the Gravitrax Expansion Catapult in terms of density – thinking about what would happen if the balls had been designed lighter. We came to the conclusion that they would not have travelled as fast or as far. This resulted us in thinking about weight restrictions on rollercoasters. The Gravitrax Add-Ons: Action Loop Add-on Courtesy of Ravensburger, we were give the base Starter Set, along with all the currently released expansions. The Lifter worked perfectly every time we used it, although you need to remember to operate it manually, unlike most of the other expansions featured here. The Gravitrax Expansion Catapult allows further development of STEM through trial and error, plus some discussion. We experimented with varying the height of the catapult: We wanted to determine whether the higher the balls are flung from has any effect on how high has and/or far they will travel to get over an obstacle. To see how far the ball went we measured it in terms of tiles it passed; and for height we built a tower that is crashed into, lower it a tile at a time to determine when it could pass. Of course the answer is yes – the higher you place your catapult the higher and further the ball will travel.

It’s fun but too inconsistent. You’ll be better off with something else unless you’re looking to complete the set. This GraviTrax expansion also has by far the least amount of stuff in the box with no bonus parts beyond the trampoline itself. My son really loves using the Lifter, which surprised me somewhat as I thought he would be annoyed at having to manually operate it each time. He enjoys seeing how the lifting mechanism works. The Scoop expansion scoops the ball up and flips it over to the next section, carrying on in the same direction. What’s in the Box?
