Musical Moments (19 clips, 46:19 total) - Think of these as song chapter selections; all of the performed songs and tell-all by Presley's manager "Colonel" Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), a man accused of mismanaging the star's funds and estate for decades by

Elvishas some great elements to it, mostly Butler's performance and the music selections and sequences that Luhrmann has conjured up under his own beautiful, glitzy, unique style. Unfortunately, it's just too uneven and long to be the ultimate Elvis movie. But of course, with Luhrmann and his wike's costume design, the sets and costumes are simply gorgeous and perfect. And yet Luhrmann and his cadre of screenwriters decide to cut through it all with some stark and brave narrative choices……frame the entire film as a medicated fever dream of Elvis’s long-term manager/nemesis Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), which not only turns the entire thing into less of a straight-forward biopic and more a battle for the soul of Elvis, but also justifies the assault on the senses that Luhrmann delivers in his typical OTT brand of cinematic excess. reasonably accurate portrayal of what you'll see on a properly calibrated setup -- and if you're upscaling to 4K, it may prove to be more impressive still.Richard wrote:Does anybody here have a copy of this via Apple in the U.K. please? I’ve watched it and there’s no way this is even BluRay quality. I’m watching via the Apple app on an LG TV, and every other Apple 4K program is perfect. So it’s not my system, I know that. And it’s not my internet connection either. The story here is told from a very unique perspective with narrative all throughout from the view of Elvis’s infamous manager “Colonel Tom Parker” (portrayed here by Tom Hanks). We see Elvis’s childhood upbringing, growing up in poverty in Tupelo, Mississippi, and then eventually moving to Memphis, Tennessee. Also, you’ll see Elvis really did have love at an early age for attending and sometimes even sneaking into gospel tents to hear the music, which influenced him dearly. As a teenager and throughout Elvis is portrayed by actor Austin Butler. During his later teenage years, you’ll get to see some of Elvis’s struggle to work a job as an electrician (appropriately enough for a company called “Crown”), and see that when he’s not working he is listening to music around the historic Beale Street in Memphis, where the Blues was born.

only quibble is that it seems mixed a few decibels lower than reference level, which includes the LFE channel, but listeners most will find this to be a Viva Australia: Recreating Iconic Locations for Elvis (7:26) - Baz Luhrmann, Marin, Butler, and others speak about the Lastly, you get over almost an hour of extras here on the Blu-ray Disc. They’re all very informative and worthwhile and I totally suggest them. However, for a film this large about an artist this significant it feels like they should maybe have included more historical footage or performances by the real Elvis Presley. But you can find all of those on DVDs and Blu-rays such as the must-see 1970 music documentary/concert film that Elvis did for MGM called “That’s the Way It Is”— which this film features plenty of recreated material and even audience footage blended in.Say what you will about the director’s frenetic style, but it absolutely works here. Maintaining a complicated narrative style and consistent tone with a film like this is a difficult to task to pull off. Lose control, and this thing is a total disaster. Not only does Luhrmann succeed, it’s likely the biggest reason the film works as well as it does. It’s certainly worth noting that the critics like the film, so much that it carries [at the time of writing] a “Certified Fresh” badge over at Rotten Tomatoes. Also, unlike any previous biographies about Elvis, this one ended up being approved (after release) by Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley as discussed in this Entertainment Weekly article. For a slightly warmer take on Elvis and a more detailed synopsis of the story, please refer to Brian Orndorf's theatrical review. Curious newcomers, as well as those who saw and enjoyed it theatrically, As expected, the 4K's transfer advances upon the already-great Blu-ray in meaningful ways; not only is this a true 2160p source, but the HDR This is a Paramount release and so that comes with some baggage - but thankfully that baggage didn’t make the trip for this release. I don’t know what or why certain titles get Paramounted, but Blue Hawaii wasn’t subjected to the treatment and comes in with a glorious 2160p Dolby Vision transfer. Not only that, Paramount even beautifully recreated the film’s opening credits so they’d be up to par with the rest of the presentation. Details are terrific allowing you to fully appreciate fine lines and, facial features, and the rather silly makeup they slathered on Lansbury to make her look much older than her actual age of 36. Film grain also doesn’t look to have been throttled, tinkered with, or DNR’d into oblivion - and if a sequence has any it’s so slight you’d have to really be looking for it to notice.
