This review is going to be a twofer. Since I already own the original Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener (non-Elite version), the generous folks at Work Sharp sent over the Upgrade Kit for me to review. Thus, bringing my original Precision Adjust to ELITE status (plus an extra Tri-Brasive). This will primarily be a Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite review, but I will also touch on the Upgrade Kit. Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite Contents Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite – Full Kit Like a genie in a bottle, Work Sharp grants us three wishes in the form of a fine-grit Tri-Brasive, coarse-grit Tri-Brasive, and a strop/serrations sharpener combo. Here are the abrasive grits that come with the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite:For those of you who have been in the knife game for some time, you’ll be familiar with the clamp and sliding rod design of the Precision Adjust Elite. In the simplest of terms, the Precision Adjust Elite is like using a guided whetstone. But it’s much simpler to use than a traditional whetstone and you can be more consistent in creating razor-sharp knives as a novice sharpener. Securing the Blade The goal of many modern knife sharpeners is to hold a repeatable edge angle between hone and knife steel. By doing this, the knife-sharpening tool removes a lot of human error and dramatically reduces the amount of time it takes to learn to sharpen a blade well. Sharpening Stones: As the name suggests, sharpening stones are exactly that; stones that are used to sharpen a blade. Speaking of Tri-Brasives, let’s go over what abrasive grits come with the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite. Tri-Brasive Sharpening Rods, Ingenuity at Its Finest Step 1: Snap the Sharpener Chassis into the Sharpener base. The bottom-front of the Sharpener Chassis goes in first. Then you press down and it should snap into place. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Bench-Top Sharpeners:Also called “tabletop sharpeners,” this is a type of largely non-mobile sharpening system that — as its name suggests — is used on a bench or tabletop. Bench-top sharpeners usually see a knife clamped down before the user selects an angle and then a sharpening stone or steel that’s evenly guided over the blade’s edge via a mound arm (or arms). While usually more expensive, these sharpeners almost always offer extremely precise sharpening, and can even be used to achieve special finishes such as a mirror polish. It's also worth noting that not all serrated knives can be sharpened with the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Sharpener. The sharpener is designed for blades with serrations with uniform width and spacing. If your serrated knife has irregular serrations or teeth of different sizes, it may not be suitable for sharpening with this type of sharpener. Are Work Sharp products made in the USA? Choosing which version to get would depend entirely on your knife collection. If you own a wide variety of knife and blade styles, the the Elite system would be the wiser choice since it comes with a complete set of sharpening stones.
