Description

Fraying and unraveling can be an issue with either the embroidery thread or the fabric. Losing fabric may lessen the allowances needed to mount and display your artistry. Fraying threads could damage the piece as they come loose and work their way to the front of the fabric. Stabilizing Fabric Edges You will need to pull on the threads along the cut edges to loosen the fibers and create the desired amount of fraying. With a little bit of effort, you can easily achieve the perfect frayed edge. But be patient! It can take some time for the fraying to really get started, but if you’re patient and let the fabric do its thing, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful, delicate frayed edges. Other options you will have will be fusible interfacing, pinking shears, and regular stitches. For materials like ribbons which can be made out of nylon fibers, a lighter will work just as well. The flame will melt the fibers together and create a lasting hold. Some Final Words

Prevent fraying as you stitch by using a temporary or permanent edge finish on your embroidery fabric. The process usually doesn't take very long, but it makes stitches easier, as you won't have pesky thread fabrics in the way as you work. There is nothing more annoying when bad things happen to a good seam! But it’s going to happen, so having the right tool to work with is important. Mark the location for your buttons AFTER sewing your buttonholes. Line everything up so that the overlap is in the proper place and then mark through the center of your buttonhole with a pencil. Much more accurate! Then you have to be careful to not use this product near open flames or a heat source. it can be very flammable and you do not want any accidents taking place. Once it dries, the liquid dries very clear and no one should know that you used it unless you tell them that you did. This method is a bit less effective than using a serger. The main difference between the two techniques is that your regular sewing machine won’t trim the raw edge as you sew. Just trim the edge with a pair of sharp scissors or a rotary cutter, and you’ll be good.

Adjust your tension if necessary. A nice balanced buttonhole should not have visible bobbin thread. You can use the brush system if you do not want to get a blob of adhesive in one spot or you can move your hand carefully and steadily to make sure you do not put too much on at one time.

If you can't get a nice tension with your topstitching thread, switch to regular thread, either matching the denim or in a fun contrasting colour. However, a serger can do the job faster and since it uses 3 (and some even 4) threads at the time it creates stronger seams. If you want to make your sewing projects last and look professional but cannot afford a serger right now, you landed in the right place!
