Gamache says that he doesn’t believe Olivier is a murderer, but that he does believe Olivier has killed. You surely know what I mean if you’ve bothered to torture yourself by reading incel screeds and the like. What was fascinating to me was, as sick and depraved as this girl is, you find yourself rooting for her as her escapades get increasingly more vile and horrific. Every surface of the kitchen was packed with colorful jars filled with jams and jellies, pickles and chutneys.

Another sad thing, especially in the cases of Olivier and Peter, and even Emily, is the deep ingrained impact that adults we depend on as children have on us as we move out of our childhood. Description of his last “painting” gives evidence that his lack of talent puts him beyond the pale in ability when compared to Clara’s masterpieces. The only thing that really turned her on was the desperation of her teacher to keep this on the hush, so she figures out some new plans for teacher. Vincent Gilbert decides to stay in Three Pines and live in Jakob’s cabin, Clara is contacted by Therese Brunel, and has hope that her art show might still happen.

When sex itself turns out to be less than the life-changing experience she was hoping for, instead of letting it depress her further, she finds entirely new ways to get herself off. Now, more psychopathic female murderers are starting to become more popular as opposed to women killing in revenge horror, which is where we previously saw most female killers in horror.

Olivier became a compulsive liar, Peter always feeling inadequate, Emily crushed by the person she loved most, and none able to grow beyond those learned and ingrained hurts. You want her to turn everything on its head and convince everyone she’s as innocent as she says she is. Emily Carr spent time on the Queen Charlotte Islands painting and documenting totem polls, with carvings very similar to the carvings done by The Hermit. There are scenes, actions, thoughts within this that I never thought I would see on a page and I respect the fuck out of that.I just can't enjoy reading about such depravity and how much you can destroy another person just for the hell of it. The best sort of horror is the kind that makes you uncomfortable and forces you to examine things you’d rather ignore, and that’s precisely what you get with Full Brutal. While she conveys typical teenager behavior, such as obsessing over losing her virginity, Triana mentions some of the details to make Kim’s character realistic. This is Full Brutal all the way, and the ending-- well, it took my breath away with the final denouement. If you go into this thinking you are getting a fun, fast-paced, Teen Scream-type, Horror novel, you may never recover.

Gamache makes a trip to the cabin to look around before it's cleaned out, and ponders who might have had motive to kill The Hermit. I have to say, this book shocked and saddened me, which is a true tribute to how real these characters have become to me through Louise Penney’s books. While her father’s working away she’s watching torture porn, obsessing over cannibalistic serial killers and plotting the ruin of everyone else.
