Description

Let’s start with the most obvious: a new Space Marine box, but it sounds quite interesting. Supposedly, the box will be filled with all the new Primaris Jump Marine stuff we expect to see previewed at NOVA Open 2023. The Tyranids Index Detachment, the Invasion Fleet, allows the Tyranids to adapt their weaponry to suit whatever enemy they are facing inbattle. The additional detachments in their codex allow them to double-down on one type of model: huge monsters in the Crusher Stampede, sneaky and swiftVanguard Onslaught organisms, an Unending Swarm of lesser creatures, the psychic abominations of theSynaptic Nexus, or a resilient Assimilation Swarm. Then, the last box is supposedly for Leagues of Votann, with a bunch of models, including the Hearthguard, Grimnir, and maybe a Land Fortress. Littleis known of how many Hive Fleets are currently descending on the galaxy. What’s more, no one knows if these Hive Fleets represent the majority of the Tyranid forces or just a tiny scouting party. Some pretty great boxes overall, and if these rumors are true, each army is going to get a decent number of savings. Orks are looking to come out on top, but the Nids box and the Space Marines box will be getting a ton of new minis in their boxes.

Tyranid Vanguard organisms are the first to make planetfall, sometimes preceding the hive fleet’s assault by months. They include infiltrator organisms like Lictors and Neurolictors, winged beasts like Gargoyles and Winged Hive Tyrants, and the rapid Genestealers. Even after the arrival of the Neurotyrant, Psychophage, and more with the Leviathan box, the Tyranids still have more horrors to offer: the Norn Emissary/Norn Assimilator, the Neurolictor, and the combined Biovore/Pyrovore. As snow begins to fall and friends gather to exchange gifts, who better to loot an enticing bounty of presents than the Beast Snaggas? These green-hued big game hunters are ready to scrap, led by legendary everything-killer Mozrog Skragbad – who can be built as a standard Beastboss on Squigosaur, if you prefer – at the head of three Squighog Boyz and a Nob on Smasha Squig. They’re joined by a Painboss medic and a mob of 10 Beast Snagga Boyz, who mount up in a psyker-strapped Kill Rig – which can alternatively be built as a Hunta Rig and a psychic Wurrboy on foot – to keep up with the cavalry for a jolly old winter punch-up. Cadian Defence Force Masters of stealth and infiltration, the Raven Guard Ravenstrike Battleforce offers 17 total models:Personally I was looking for exactly this combination of stuff, for various reasons that include being stupid enough to own not one but two Marine armies and this neatly covering things I needed for both, but if you don’t have the particular brainworms I do then you might find some of this box a bit extraneous. If you’re newer to Marines and don’t already have an Impulsor or many Phobos guys (who legitimately are great in 9th edition) then this is still potentially a good buy, and Invictors aren’t horrible in-game and are fun kits so if you’re not looking to be hyper-competitive they’re a cool toy and will do just fine on the table. Necrons – Eradication Legion This Tyranid Hive Fleet was smaller than most but became a juggernaut through smart, stealthy methods. Its Tyranids would hurl their spores at unsuspecting planets; their submerged Norn-Queens breeding an army out of the ground itself, burrowing and forming networks under the feet of their enemies before rising to feast. This Hive Fleet has since been largely destroyed, but given Tryanids’ nature, it’s impossible to ever be certain of their destruction. The quintessential Tyranid force is an Endless Swarm of warrior beasts hurling themselves into the guns of their foe, utterly heedless of their own mortality. Thisforce is a rapid-moving tide of Hormagaunts, Termagants and Neurogaunts, accompanied by swarms of chittering Gargoyles. Just remember, though, these are rumors, so don’t get too hyped or mad about the contents. However, if these are right, each army gets a pretty themed box which is fun for both new collectors and people just looking to add some juice to their army. RUMORS: Games Workshop Warhammer 40k & AoS Christmas Battleforces Boxes For 2023! This puts the Exalted of the Red Angel Battleforce to 815 points, which is incredible value for any player looking to start their path to the Skull Throne. With the box including the Red Angel himself, it’s great if you want to get a centrepiece model for your World Eater if – for some reason – you didn’t have Angron already! Leagues of Votann – Defenders of the Ancestors

Worth noting for fantasy fans: GW also announced a range of eight Warhammer Age of Sigmar Battleforces for 2022. Not a bad starter force or an addition to an existing one. Standard Sisters and Sacresants, but the draw here are the 2 tanks. The Immolator is cool but nothing beats what GW have described as a “long-range, missile-launching pipe organ cum-temple” no, Seriously, they did. (cue childing giggling) The jury is out on the value of these as we haven’t seen the prices yet, but anything in the ballpark of last year makes these sets a steal. Nooks and crannies in alien fleshwork great with Contrast paints. Similarly, their bone carapaces work well with dry brushing techniques, helping you make the model’s edges pop while maintaining their unique organic feel.

Tyranids Onslaught Swarm

We know that the troops for the Astra Militarum is fairly cheap – after all, there are billions of men and women in the Imperial Guard. Thanks to the tanks, the total Points value of this box comes out to 705 points, which should provide a solid foundation for a Militarum army. Or a great addition if you’re trying to round your 2000 Points list out! Space Marines – Spearhead Force The enhancements available to this Detachment all relate to Harvesters: the Instinctive Defence Enhancement turns a unit into a guard dog for Harvesters, letting it use the Heroic Intervention Stratagem for free to defend them, or letting it be healed by two Harvester units each turn. The Ork Boys Sprue has only been released so far as part of the Ork Combat patrol Box – No individual set prices have been release. Prices are estimated based on 2 of the Kruleboyz Gutrippaz Sprue

So let’s take a look at the individual forces and the Value in each box. 2021 Battleforce – Space Marines – Shieldbreaker Strike Force (Contents, Price, Value & Savings) Assuming the prices are all relatively the same, the highest savings/value will come from the Tyranids and Necrons Battleforce with the other three just behind. Well, other than the Imperial Guard one, let’s just hope theirs is cheaper! Overall, these are all decent armies in 40k. Not to mention they come with a decent chunk of units to get somebody started off on the right foot. It looks like each one of these boxes allows the player to make a Combat Patrol Detachment at the very least. Not quitea Battle Box but released at the same time. This blood Angels (or lets be fair, any chapter) Boxed Set actually has more variety that the Interdiction Force, albeit fewer models. Again, Valrak didn’t know how many Berserkers/Eightbound will be in the box for sure, just that one of them would be 2x with the other 1x but since Eightbound fit Angron better, I expect 2x of those.) Leagues of Votan 2023 Battleforce: Getting a full, workable army of Imperial Knights in one box is a rare opportunity – and the Imperial Knights Chainbreaker Lance Battleforce does provide a noticeable discount. That bio-artillery has the Indirect Fire weapon ability, letting you target models hiding out of line of sight, and can also deposit drifting clouds of spore mines around the battlefield. To get an idea of just how much you could save we’ve done the breakdown comparing all the individual model prices to the overall boxed Battleforce Boxed price. It took ten thousand years before the Tyranids even breached the edges of the Milky Way. Now, however, they are here, and they’re not likely to leave. This box is pretty cool if you want Angron! However, if you already grabbed Angron, this box will probably be a pass. So, it may be more geared toward people starting a new army. Savings wise, we’re once again looking at last year where we had anything from 25% – 37% in savings for these boxes versus buying the units individually at retail. That’s Nothing to sniff at!
