Description

I will continue to read Alexandra Potter’s books, as from the 3 books I’ve read so far by her, I thinks she does a great job at capturing the trials and tribulations of women in their 40’s. My other favourite character is, of course, the gorgeous Arthur. I can’t resist a slightly mischievous, four footed ball of fluff. But there are two main things I have a problem with in this book. The first is the main character’s grief. Now I know this is a humorous book, I totally get that. But humour and pain can co-exist quite nicely, especially in fiction. My gripe is the main character feels pain, but not quite enough. This is not to say that the pain of the childless can’t be overcome, not at all. All I’m

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for giving me for giving me a copy of this book for review consideration. As always, no matter what the source of the book, you get my honest, unbiased opinion.

Summary

This book was a breath of fresh air especially if you are having a bad few days this is a book that will have you in giggles - But hopefully not in public transport like I was!!! oops!!!!! Life finally seems to be plain sailing for Nell - her job, her man, her friends all going well - but this wouldn't be real life without a few spanners in the works so nothing is quite as settled as she thought.

But then something happened that no one expected, turning the world upside down in a way no one could have ever imagined. Eighteen months on, life is finally returning to normal! But what is normal anymore? Nell makes herself write a gratitude list to help her survive her life, and gradually her list goes from breathing to achievements that she is really proud of. But mostly she becomes proud of herself, f##k up's and all, which is so lovely not to mention empowering to watch. Yet only recently have a broader selection of messy, unfiltered female characters entered the zeitgeist, primarily through our TV screens, with Phoebe Waller-Bridges’s Fleabag, Sara Pascoe’s Out of Her Mind, Katherine Ryan’s The Duchess and Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper’s I Hate Suzie all proving that it is possible for a woman to own both her flaws and failures. Laugh-out-loud funny and painfully relatable, Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up is a celebration of friendship and a reminder that while life doesn’t always go according to plan, it doesn’t mean you can’t find happiness. I'm not saying this to be trite or to make you feel better, but believe me when I say this: the people who matter will see you, no matter what.”Funny but layered, light-hearted but surprisingly deep, this is a perfect and inspiring new year read' - Red A novel for any woman who wonders how the hell she got here, and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be. And who is desperately trying to figure it all out when everyone around them is making gluten-free brownies.

The book features an array of wonderful friendships. From cross generational, to long distance, to the support you find when someone has seen you at your best, and your lowest, over many years. My bookclub friends will appreciate this one. ——‘When did I stop buying expensive lingerie and start buying expensive hoovers? Worst still when did I start getting excited about my new hoover?’ Starnutie nie je pre slabé nátury. V rámci úprimnosti by som sa mala k čomusi priznať. Hoci po všetkých týchto veciach túžim, moje druhé ja sa ich desí. Mám na mysli tú časť mojej osobnosti, čo sa v denníkoch zaprisahávala, že nikdy neskončí ako moji rodičia. Čítala tajne pod perinou knihy, svietiac si baterkou, a snívala o vášnivých romanciach a cestovaní do ďalekých krajín. Bola odhodlaná žiť neobyčajne, dobrodružne, slobodne, vzrušujúco, inak…”Delilah and Gavin’s new love is threatened by a force uncomfortably close to home in this haunting novel from New York Times bestselling duo Christina Lauren, authors of Beautiful Bastard. She cites the miscarriage scene in Fleabag as a perfect example of this. “That has happened to friends, who have had one in the toilet at work, for example, and then had to rush into a meeting.” She pauses. “I think it’s very difficult for us to be vulnerable, but when we allow ourselves to be, like Chrissy Teigen did with her miscarriage and then Meghan Markle with her New York Times essay, that’s when we get that real connection – because we’re being honest and real.” The childless slant was quite relentless in this story, but as all light reads it wasn't meant to be taken too harshly, and all sides ended up being explored. the friendships that Nell has in her life, they flounder and flourish, and reminds me that friendship needs to worked at to keep alive
