Description

Mushrooming also involves smelling things, sometimes nibbling things. You have to pay attention to when in the season things appear, and relationships to other things — what trees and other plants and things are nearby? And so it really brings you into a close awareness of where you are and engages so many of your senses. Perfect for fungi fans, and appreciators of nature illustrations and art! While not a hard-core scientific fieldbook, her insights, tips, recipes and stories about her foraging adventures accompany her gorgeous illustrations, and they had me laughing and learning the whole way through. While these are my personal favourite mushroom hunting books, there are plenty of other excellent resources available, each with their unique features and purposes. The latter species, are significantly different in cap colour only. Both types are very sought after, being highly palatable and more common than the B. edulis.

The genus Macrolepiota, usually Macrolepiota procera, and, to a lesser extent, Macrolepiota rhacodes are highly regarded, especially in Europe, being very palatable and very large, with specimens of M. procera as high as one meter being reported. Interest in foraging for wild food is on the rise, and magnificent mushrooms are very much on the menu. But if you’re gathering your own, you’ve got to get it right. Macrolepiota procera (parasol mushroom) is a large mushroom that can be found in pastures and forests. [14]

To facilitate the identification process and provide some guidance, this article aims to recommend a few fungi identification books. In one chapter of Mushrooming, Diane Borsato recounts what happened when she went on Chinatown forays in Toronto and New York City.
