Description

The style is an eclectic mix of astute animal observation, gossipy stories about what animal did what when, rather tedious geneology of all the wonderful cows the author has had the pleasure to know and some "All Creatures Great and Small" vibes. Cows are not farmed in farms here, the farmer lets the gardens of the whole island feed them and they just cull the baby bulls, the cows are free to live out their lives until old age weakens them, then they too go to the abbatoir. When I read about this book I was confident that this was going to be a very good read but in reality I felt let down and while the book was interesting in spells it failed to grip me like I hoped. I don't really have an idea how to perform such an analysis, partly because I can see how the ingredients work together to produce the book's effects, and partly because I can't enumerate the kinds of extreme subjects, acts, and descriptions.

There’s no pictures of Matthew Stokoe anywhere – remember we were googling on Clara’s laptop the other day, after milking time? We can’t say that Steven is the type of main character we want to live within, he’s probably mad too, as in insane, and matching him is every other human in the novel. Ben pek sevemedim ya, yani endüstriyel hayvancılığa karşı geliyor ama bir yandan da organik diye ineklerin güvenini kazanıp aynı sonuca götürüyor? These anecdotes about animal behavior, gathered over Young’s decades of working on Kite’s Nest Farm, a small family operation in the Cotswolds, were originally published in 2003. I was very moved by the fact that in a hundred years’ time, the cow may be the largest animal left on earth. After reading what I have just written, you are probably wondering, what is so intense about this story. At Kite’s Nest Farm, Rosamund Young sees all her animals in a very different way, and her cows hold a special place in her heart.

Hendes forældre startede som selvstændige landmænd på Kite’s Nest Farm I 1953, og her begav de sig ud i at drive et økologisk landbrug, før begrebet ’økologi’ overhovedet var opfundet. The most thought-provoking elements of the book are Cam's blog posts, which crystallise a variety of topical arguments in popular culture that O'Porter engages with regularly in her columns for Glamour magazine, among other publications. He also has a pet dog named DOG, whom is his only friend, and who’s back has been broken by “The HogBeast” by flinging a brick at the dog. In Europe and the UK, we created this idea that it was safe to eat cattle below 30 months and not above. As if that's not enough, Lucy is convinced that all the poisons in human beings (mucous, excrement, etc.
