Well, I couldn't ask, because he wasn't here, but I had to trust and believe there was a very good reason for the murders in our butterfly kingdom.

Q and A | Lucinda Riley Q and A | Lucinda Riley

But what about our beach hut?’ I asked Daddy. I loved our little hut – it was painted a butter yellow, and stood at the very end of the row so if you looked the right way, you could pretend that you were the only people on the beach for miles, but if you turned the other way, you weren’t too far from the nice ice cream man by the pier. Daddy and I always made the most elaborate sandcastles, with turrets and moats, big enough for all the little crabs to live in if they decided to come close enough. Maman never wanted to come to the beach; she said it was ‘too sandy’, which I thought was rather like saying the ocean was too wet. My problem with the book lies within the toxic relationships (wth is Amy doing with Sam??) and the secrets that shouldn't have been secrets that drove me mad!!! And then solving problems with champagne and money...erm...no. I'm Kristin. I always have a book with me wherever I go! I am married and have two chocolate labs - Maddie and Chloe. In addition to reading, I also enjoy yoga and walking - I am a big audio fan and love listening to audio books while out walking! This book will certainly tug at all your emotions. There were a few scenes that had me tearing up and a few that made me quite angry. Riley certainly knows how to evoke an emotional response out of her readers and her characters all are so richly drawn that you can’t help but want the best for them. And the descriptions – whether of Admiral House itself or of the lands and garden – this book is perfectly worded so that you can visualize everything.

Posy Montague is approaching her seventieth birthday. Still living in her beautiful Suffolk family home, Admiral House, she is surrounded by memories of her idyllic childhood catching butterflies with her beloved father, and of raising her own children. But Posy knows she must make an agonizing decision. As you know, men generally tend to be much more basic than women; for the most part, less emotionally complex. They call a spade a spade, whereas women are more likely to say it’s a metal digging implement used in the garden.

The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley | Waterstones

Admiral House is almost a character of its own in the story. Is it based on a house that you’ve been to? Secrets are at the heart of the brand new standalone novel and sprawling family saga from international bestselling author, Lucinda Riley. The Butterfly Room is an impassioned novel, unfolding over multiple timelines, revealing a tale of war, romance, mystery and tragedy. Daddy?’ I asked at breakfast the next day, dipping my toast soldiers carefully into my egg. ‘It’s so hot today, can we go to the beach? We haven’t been in such a long time.’ Lucinda Riley always writes characters that are memorable, identifiable and most of all loveable. These qualities are all in Posy, who has led a varied, and a times hard life, which is why I loved her tenacity and positivity towards life. She looses her beloved father at only seven years old, and as a result her mother when she went to live with her grandmother. Loss seems to be a common denominator in life as she is left widowed with two young children after her return to Admiral House, the place where she was happiest with her father. Still there at seventy she is considering selling as she can’t afford the upkeep, but she may have another chance of love with Freddie. For all Posy was my favourite character, her son Sam had to be my least favourite. Sam always has some new business venture going on but never any money or success which he always blames on someone else. The person most effected by this is his long suffering wife Amy, and two young children, who manages to work and look after the children without much help from her husband. Amy is the other character I took to my heart, her love for her children, always trying to do the right thing and her loyalty to Sam were admiral qualities but she does deserve better. This was my first Lucinda Riley Novel and the description on the blurb appealed to me. A story set the beautiful Suffolk countryside in England, Posy Montague approaching her seventieth birthday and still living in the family home of Admiral House where history and secrets abound. When a face appears from her past, Posy is reluctant to trust again. A story about family and romance set between the years 1940s and 2006.

The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley - Pan Macmillan The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley - Pan Macmillan

Me gustaba el momento en que el verano daba paso al largo invierno. La niebla empezaba a flotar entre las copas de los árboles cual enormes telas de araña, y el aire olía a leña. Posy Montague is a widow, she's about to turn seventy and a mother of two grown up sons. She lives in her families crumbling house in Suffolk, her childhood home and her two sons. Widowed at a young age, she raised her boys at Admiral House, when they went away to boarding school she kept her self busy gardening and she spent twenty five years creating a beautiful garden. It’s a magnificent garden, but a lot of work and her old house needs major repairs and it’s a money pit. It smelt of polish, and light illuminated the circular walls that surrounded the windows Daisy had just cleaned. On the wall directly in front of me hung what must be an entire extended family of Red Admiral butterflies. They were lined up in rows of four behind glass enclosed by a gilt frame.
