Nike created the first pair of FlyEase trainers, which included a wrap-around zipper, to let Walzer’s foot slide in and out. The Glide FlyEase Premium features a laceless mesh upper in “Blue Void” with “FLYEASE” marked pull tabs on the tongue and a recycled TPU heel clip in light red resembling aged steel. From pinnacle FlyEase innovations to the wide selection of easy on/off footwear, you can do more of what matters most — play. Refuge, a UK nonprofit, helps women to leave abusive relationships, secure their devices, and stay safe. A soft and springy speckled marble midsole is visible from the top with the absence of insoles, adding to the minimalistic feel. Nike started using its FlyEase branding more than half a decade ago when Matthew Walzer, a 16-year-old living with Cerebral Palsy, wrote to the company saying he wasn’t able to tie its shoelaces. Since then, the distinct silhouettes in the FlyEase series have garnered mainstream adoption due to their comfort and convenience. The FlyEase wraparound zip technology lets the heel fully open up so kids can slide their feet in and secure them with a strap over the top.

When walking in them they feel stable – there’s no chance of the hinge opening – but they feel very big on your feet. The move isn’t unusual but when it comes to trainers that have been designed around accessibility it has caused Nike problems. There’s a lot of foam that has been used in the creation of the trainers, and it seems to be there to support the hinge mechanism. The Nike FlyEase project began with Tobie Hatfield‘s vision to create no-lace sneakers with easy entry-and-closure systems for athletes who have trouble getting in and out of shoes. There’s the bi-stable hinge, which is like those you get on ketchup lids; a tensioner, which is essentially an elastic band running around the shoe; and the kickstand, a piece of rubber on the heel that lets you stamp your way out of the shoe.

The upper and the midsole also transition seamlessly into each other to allow a wider range of motion on the court.
