It’s a good looking laptop too, with a plastic shell that could be mistaken for metal in a favourable light, a large trackpad, and a privacy shutter over the webcam lens, which we like to see.I desperately wish the bottom had the same grippy striations — the Pixelbook Go of yesteryear proved the benefits of a groovy Chromebook bottom — but it's just smooth plastic. In tablet mode, the touchscreen functionality is fairly slick, with only occasional stuttering from the interface when swiping or scrolling. These, along with Chromebooks’ ability to run Android apps, mean you can switch between tablet and laptop modes as your workflow dictates, making them great choices for general-purpose machines.

The net result is not only a conspicuously old fashioned-looking device but also one that’s bigger than it might otherwise be.That sense of engineering quality extends to the keyboard, which has plenty of keystroke and a really solid base.
