Description

One Day in December made for one of the best group discussions we have had. We received a group kit with discussion questions and it had some of the best questions we have yet used. You can find them online as well. The questions are very thought-provoking, easy to answer and really related to the theme, insight and emotions we felt towards the story. Shari's writing is always a pleasure to read as emotions are felt almost from the beginning. In this book too, there was an innocence in the way certain characters were depicted. I love to hate my characters too, I take almost a guilty pleasure in it. Lila evoked that in me almost from the get-go. The beginning took some time for me to connect to the characters, but I settled down once I got to know them. To get the full impact of missed chances requires a long scope and that is exactly what this book provides. The pacing is just right, the tone warm, and the characters sympathetic… Anyone who believes in true love or is simply willing to accept it as the premise of a winding tale will find this debut an emotional, satisfying read.” This is one of those books where you have to set aside a bit of relaxation time so you can focus fully on all the characters. All the events take place in a very short space of time, over one day in fact.

I swear there were so many moments my heart broke for those three and sometimes all I wanted to do was to rip the book in two. *lol* I was so emotionally invested in this that it felt like they were my friends and naturally I only wanted them to be happy! XD Sometimes they were and I was glad for those moments, but other times they were so unhappy that I felt myself hurting with them. >_< We’re on a mission to help you find the best love stories in period dramas, movies, TV shows, and books, Romantic Living inspiration, and more. Jane Austen proved stories have the power to change the world, and we believe that too!We all want to know that our soul mate is somewhere out there just waiting for us to find them. But what if you found him one cold December day and, before you had time to declare your undying love for him, you were parted? Our main character in The Things I Knowis Thomasina Waycott (AKA Hitch) who lives and works on her family’s farm and B&B. The farm is remote and Hitch wants to experience more life – including love, but she’s not sure that will ever happen. Josie Silver writes a wonderfully enchanting love story that will tug hard on your heartstrings, making even the most hardened soul believe in love once again.

I liked the steady writing style all the characters are believable but not necessarily likeable. Some of the antics were very much in the ‘what are you doing!’ league but it makes for an entertaining story.Girl, Laurie, is on a bus. She looks out the window and notices a guy sitting in a bus shelter absorbed in a hardcover book. He lifts his head and sees the girl staring at him. Their eyes meet. They communicate wordlessly … Other characters seemed a little less finely drawn and Ken, in particular, felt a little like pantomime villain. The men in this book aren’t a terribly good advertisement for fatherhood! Although I couldn’t like Lila – self-obsessed, shallow and mercenary – I could admire her spirit and her ability to land on her feet (metaphorically only, as it turns out). Bernadette is tired of her husbands ways and is finally going to demand the divorce she had been wanting for quite some time now. She despised him. When he walked out, she’d thought she couldn’t hate him more. Now, looking at these images, she realised there was a whole pool of hate she hadn’t even dipped her toe in yet.

He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last? Will Thomasina and Grayson find a way? If you want to know what fate has in store for them then you’ll need to read this beautifully-written novel like One Day in December. If Love Actually met Sliding Doors and became a novel influenced by Jojo Myers, you’d have One Day in December. There’s just something about Christmas and the UK that’s a recipe for modern rom-coms that will have you running for the mistletoe.”
