The Dell S3220DGF is an impressive gaming monitor in many areas: it offers superb core image quality alongside subtle and sturdy design, and its size, resolution and curve deliver absorbing gaming. Question, I’ve got a AOC Agon ag322qcx and had bought it last year in January 2019. It is 144hz, VA, 1800R curved 1440p 16:9 aspect screen. Would this be a comparable upgrade because I plan on upgrading my 1070ti to RDNA2 gpu by the end of this year or beginning of next year. Or should I wait to upgrade the monitor later? Reply Critics loved that the Dell S3220DGF has very low input lag, a high refresh rate, excellent image quality, and a good contrast ratio. Yeah I get that. Same goes for just about all higher hz monitors. It’s just when people say, “super fast is better”. Why is it better? You have to be noticing something for that response to be, “better”. Seems I’ll just have to be patient and see for myself. Thanks though. Reply So I have some questions about the monitor, and would love to get some answers, from not only Tom's, but from owners of this monitor. To that end, Dell serves up a 32-inch, curved VA panel with a 1440p resolution and AMD FreeSync 2. On paper, at least, that’s an impressive slate of features for mainstream gaming. Price and availability Cheers, and I fully agree with your point. I went from TN to IPS, which was a big change and I also had concerns about VA, more so for the viewing angles. linovi said:Make sure to enable freesync on the monitor. Then it should show up in the Nvidia control panel Thanks for your reply. Freesync is enabled on the monitor. Is there anything else I may be missing? https://www.dell.com/community/Monitors/S3220DGF-revision-A03-still-no-1440p120Hz-over-HDMI/m-p/7640772

You hit it on the nose for the competitive gamers, that Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM I linked to with 1080p but a 280Hz top refresh is a better choice than this one for this price point. Reply Dell’s S3220DGF is a great path for an upgrade to an SDR, fixed resolution display for those with a budget in mind; assuming it is on sale. At the full price there are choices out there with better panel tech and if you don’t have a budget you should be looking at ultra wide displays meeting the DisplayHDR1000 specification. You should also consider your intended usage before choosing between an IPS panel or a VA panel such as this Dell S3220DGF. An IPS will offer you better viewing angles which is important on screens without a curve, however it cannot match the superior contrast ratio of the VA panel nor will it be as enjoyable in a dark room. and va... is not from the past? no new fast-ips?The DPI of 1440p at 32" is the same as a 1080p at 24" so that isn't bad. Also VA is the panel type used on the majority of LED TVs. While IPS is nice, I prefer VA for the added contrast.https://www.dell.com/community/Customer-Care/I-need-help-with-a-product-exchange-Dell-Support-hangs-up-on-me/m-p/7716255 We find QHD to be the best balance between detail and performance. Although 4K gaming monitors will look slightly sharper, its lower motion resolution will erase much of that gain unless you have a lot of graphics processing power under the hood. The S3220DGF is a great fit for a mid to high-budget systems. Nevertheless, at this price, there’s a lot to like. The Dell S3220DGF is a top-notch option for immersive mainstream gaming. You should buy it if… Dell’s display looks subtle, so it’s ideal if you want a screen that will suit a more professional environment – or if you just don’t like the gregarious design of modern gaming hardware.

The display’s Delta E of 1.64 and colour temperature of 6519K are both excellent, and they create accurate colours – both figures are below the point where human eyes will detect inaccuracies. The panel’s sRGB coverage level of 95.5% is high enough to ensure that this display can render virtually every shade required by mainstream games and movies. Beneath this, you’ll find a VA panel with 10-bit colour and a 4ms response time. Again, those figures are more suited to single-player gaming and mainstream eSports gameplay – that response time needs to be lower for high-level competition. In addition, the Dell S3220DGF has superior color accuracy, a larger screen size, and an impressive contrast ratio. The Dell S3220DGF’s 32in diagonal means this screen is on the large side, and it has an 1800R curve which is entirely standard for a gaming display. It isn’t a dramatic curve, but it works well, adding immersion and improving viewing angles without becoming distracting. It also has greater gradient handling than its competitor, the Gigabyte G32QC. It’s an excellent monitor not only for gaming but for those working on multimedia projects where color accuracy is paramount. I did the exchange and found that the monitor I received was the EXACT SAME with the same outdated EDID, manufactured May 2020 A03.

Of course, if you do like displays with wild design and plenty of lighting, the Dell doesn’t fit the bill. Alienware will be more your style. The Dell is only suitable for mainstream work situations, too. While it’s adept at handling colours in the sRGB gamut, it’s no good with Adobe RGB. As with gaming, the Dell is ideal for mainstream situations, but it doesn’t have the versatility for anything beyond that, so content creators should look elswhere. Conclusion

I have tried to express this to Dell to no avail. They have attempted to connect me to Customer Care multiple times and each time I get disconnected. When I try and call the number they gave me I get general technical support. The 2560 x 1440 resolution stretches across the 32in display, and this is a sensible mainstream figure. It’s high enough to provide a crisp gaming experience, but it isn’t outrageous. As such, a broad range of graphics cards will be able to run games on this panel, including cards such as the Nvidia RTX 3070 and Radeon RX 6700 XT. Only a 4K display will be sharper, but that will require a far more powerful graphics card. I want to buy this monitor for few weeks now and after reading this, I really don't see why not buy it right now. Dell’s display has AMD FreeSync 2 with a peak refresh rate of 165Hz, and it also works with Nvidia graphics cards. That refresh rate is high enough to handle mainstream eSports games, and it will make single-player titles look butter-smooth. It isn’t fast enough for top-tier eSports gaming, however.
