Description

After the cue giver gives the one-word cue, all of the other players will get the opportunity to make their first guess.

Others, like a 3-D area-control game, or a trick-taking game where you don’t know the results of your play until all cards are revealed are still very early in the design process. The player to the left/clockwise of the previous cue giver, becomes the cue giver for the next round. Older players always have an advantage when playing any type of word game due to a larger vocabulary. If a lot of the players are within a single square of the chosen color, it’s in the Cue-giver’s best interest to refrain from a second Cue. It can easily be played by players with color deficiencies since the game is about matching color perceptions and not about what color an apple is.The black and yellow players receive two points for the piece inside the frame and one point for the piece touching the outside of the frame. So let’s dive into how it works and see if it should be something you break out at your next get together (in 2022 or so…). And a clue/guessing party game that can appeal to both the analysts and artists alike is pretty unique. If that wasn’t enough, thanks to the grid references it is possible to play socially distanced with one person managing the board.

Or have them come up with creative color names for as many different colors on the board as they can . Overall, Hues and Cues is a fun, light-hearted game that helps you appreciate the colors that you might see every day. Based off of a wide spectrum of color, players will have a lot of fun trying to become the Hues And Cues champion. But, by their very nature, they can quickly outstay their welcome if played too often with the same group. I think anyone who has a specialty in life, whether a chef, engineer, doctor or lawyer, could probably find a way to gamify the best and worst parts of their jobs. Also I apologize because the official name of the component isn’t ‘scoring rig’, but I’ve become rather attached to the moniker. I’m sure there are more artistic minded folks that might see Hues and Cues as a more creative outlet (or even a test of color theory or something). Mom has been more on the side of “this is way to hard to come up with cues” whereas those at work are in the camp of “wish we could play it every day”. For young kids, you may want to let them look at the board and just choose a color they have an idea for.

I’m glad I did because it was those friends who really got excited and encouraged me to show it to some of our industry friends. I haven’t played a game of Hues and Cues yet where someone didn’t say “Sky” for some version of blue. You might also consider allowing two-word clues right from the start, or even allowing a longer description. But there is a lot to be said for a game that has wide appeal and can be taught in just a couple of minutes.
