All of which combined reduce spherical and chromatic aberration as well as delivering consistent and impressive results. As you can see, the lens is pretty sharp wide open, with its performance reaching peak levels by f/4 – and that’s its sweet spot for those who want to get excellent performance across the whole frame.

In good light with a high contrast subject it can focus very quickly, but when going from near to far or vice versa, or in lower light, the focusing slows down and it’s not unusual to wait for a second or so for it to lock-onto the subject. With no weather sealing, you have to be particularly careful with this lens if you use it in inclement weather or dusty conditions. I had my kids run, scoot or bike towards me over a 100m distance and in each sequence the XT1 and 56mm f1. The texture and torque on the rings makes for comfortable shooting even for delicate manual focusing. After all, there are only a few lenses within the XF Mount that can produce comparable bokeh to more-expensive, full-frame systems, and the Fujifilm 56mm F1. The two extra-low dispersion elements and double-sided aspherical element do an excellent job in controlling lateral chromatic aberrations. Once your application has been accepted, usually within minutes, we will immediately dispatch your equipment. There’s a wide and heavily damped manual focusing ring which feels very smooth, if perhaps a little stiff, and closest to the mount a manual aperture ring with a fixed range of f1. Indeed I could quite happily shoot with the 56mm using manual focus and peaking, and in low light it often proved quicker and more successful than using the AF, especially with the lackluster face detection. It's still relatively compact and light enough to feel well-balanced on the X-H2 and X-H2S cameras that we tested it with, although they are admittedly one of the largest X-series bodies currently available.

I’ll come out and say it now that I’d probably go as far to say that this is the perfect portrait lens for the Fujifilm X Series. Finally, I’ve noticed that when shooting in colour, the images are much cooler than from other lenses in similar situations. that I will use you much more regularly and keep persevering with you in terms of my travel photography! This all being said, I did feel like the color fringing on the 50mm F1 was much more noticeable over the 56mm F1.
