Description

One where humans live in military-controlled, cramped and dirty cities along the coasts, and the majority of the United States is known as the Wastes. A lawless, desolate and dangerous place, teeming with monsters that have claimed the land for their own.

Danny is just lovely. Yes, he is young and inexperienced (and rather sweet – in a good way!), but I loved how he intuitively knows what’s right and wrong, and how he’s able to feel compassionate for everyone, even horrible monsters or a*****e officers. I certainly would not have found any compassion for the two bastard officers, particularly in the last stages of the book

Michael Lesley

Beyond that their chemistry is off the charts! The neediness, the possessiveness and come together in red hot steam. And there was a lot of it. I’m used to it. It’s what I do here. Kill monsters and other people. And this monster, Seraph, is particularly unstable—has been since the moment he arrived from Collector Mary’s monster menagerie to the west, where the military stashed him away.

He can’t get to you. He can’t get to you. I had to chant it to myself in my head. I had to trust the reinforced glass, which was the only thing separating us. there wasn't much going on, plot-wise, bc we basically just followed wyn and danny (sometimes edin, wyn's friend) through different places while wyn would continue his task but i simply adored every interaction wyn and danny had—even if they weren't doing anything at all—that i still enjoyed this book, regardless. it did have a lot of telling > showing, which i'm personally not a fan of, and the ending felt abrupt that i literally thought, "that's it??" but, overall, i'm glad i finally decided to give this series a chance! can't wait to read the other books bc i already love this world lily mayne has created. 😌 It’s one of the first books in a long time I could not put down, and when I had to (regrettably), my mind was still there, with Danny and Wyn. I love me some Wyn especially in his hooded cloak. Like Danny was all “I need to see your face it’s important” and I was like …. When a strange woman shows up outside our camp in the Wastes with monsters chained up to her RV, it feels like I’m the only one who actually wants to help them.new favourite author alert!!! that was amazing!!! oh my god!!! literally can’t believe this was lily mayne’s debut novel. ♥️ Throughly enjoyed this the second time round. So much fun and such imagination! And Wyn…. I think he is still my favourite monster. He is just such a softie under that grumpy facade and dark hood!

Wyn gave touch him and you die and he’d protect Danny with his whole life. He would search every piece of land on earth if it meant getting what Danny needed. And how Danny never wanted to leave Wyn’s side even if it meant he was putting his life on the line. They are true soulmates and it showed in the little thing they did for each other 🥺 And, of course, his self-consciousness, when compared to the other monsters we meet later in this series, slots right in here. They’ve not been travelling between worlds for twelve thousand years. They’ve been sheltered, as much as they could be, from the cruelty humans can cause. It’s interesting to note that the only other non-human as self-conscious of his appearance as Wyn is Moth, who has also been subjected to that same type of cruelty – albeit from humans and monsters both. A ghoul. A demon. The bogeyman. I have been called all of them. Most creatures fear me, but humans are repulsed by me. They are terrified of me. They have created legends about me, ever since they became aware of my existence when the tear between our worlds grew and we—the monsters from their nightmares—flooded through in our droves.

This is set in a future not too far from now, where there's been an apocalypse when some big tears in the universe(s) brought forth many, many monsters from other realms/universes onto earth. Now not all of them meant harm - some did, sure, but not all - but you know humans.... Underneath everything, this is a love story between Wyn and Danny - in other words a Soul Eating Monster (Wyn) and a 23 year old military young human man (Danny) who has no family left and kind of fell into the military as a last resort. This has the making of a truly wonderful story. But, for me, this is where it fell flat. The first time I read this I liked it a lot, the second time around was even better because I loved it more. I'll never get tired of reading about Danny and the sweetheart that is Wyn. 💗💗 You’re all I want, Wyn. You and me.❞ I swallowed, glad he couldn’t look at me while I said this. ❝My whole life has felt like I was just kind of drifting. No purpose. No aim. But now… This feels like where I’m meant to be. This feels right.❞

There’s so much imagination in the types of monsters, their histories, how they interact with each other… Not to mention all the, um, anatomical details. 😉 Different Topics and Subjects: Books cover a wide range of topics and subjects, from history and science to romance and fantasy. Categorizing books allows readers to explore specific areas of interest or find books related to a particular subject they are seeking information about. Seraph, 60%, Lilac POV) His body was like a work of art. So unique, unlike anything I’d ever seen before. I loved every part of it. I wanted him more than I’d ever wanted anyone. Discoverability and Recommendations: Categorization makes it easier for readers to discover new books within their preferred genres. It allows bookstores, online platforms, and libraries to organize books in a way that facilitates browsing and helps readers find books similar to those they have enjoyed in the past. It also enables recommendation algorithms to suggest relevant books based on a reader’s genre preferences. Again with the Choth comparisons, but I was pretty sure Charlie topped all in gentle caretaking and being supportive and loving for his monster. Until Seraph. The way Lilac stayed by Seraph no matter what happened - in the snow, uphill both ways - it was almost a caricature but I felt his emotion so much. Seraph was his and he wanted to protect him, no matter what.Lily Mayne’s Monstrousseries starts here, with Soul Eater, the story of soldier Danny and the death monster who takes a shine to him. wyn (the soul eater 👀), who’s basically a near immortal, insanely powerful monster and is feared by all humans was so achingly sweet, compassionate and kind. the way he called danny “my sweet human”… my heart burst every single time. he was also so shy, sometimes insecure & adorable at times omg…🥺 i love you.” his voice shook the tiniest amount, making my heart swell too big for my chest. “more than anything in this universe. but you can’t tell anyone.” 🤣♥️ To make it short: It was a good decision. While it took me a bit to get used to Danny's southern drawl, it was perfectly in character, seeing as he's from Louisiana. Wyn's deep growl was... everything. It gave me all the best shivers, and made me appreciate Michael Lesley even more.
