They share the same warm character with steady mid-bass, boosted lower mid-tones and vocals that become more prominent on higher listening volumes. However, the TrueAir 2 (Plus) does sound more open and balanced, as it puts vocals slightly more forward and extends upper-mids and highs more. The Air3 boosts mid-bass and lower-mids further, providing more warmth to the sound, and sounding more detailed in these lower areas. Both sound excellent for half-in-ears, but for more vocal genres, the TrueAir2 (Plus) may still have a tiny edge.

The Air3 can go plenty loud, and it's around 60% of the playing volume the higher frequencies and details increase. Don't expect the widest soundstage or precise instrument positioning, but music does feel around you with a fair amount of detail and decent separation between instruments and layers. If you listen to modern and electronic genres mostly, the added lows of the TrueAir2 will work better for you; if you prefer listening to acoustic and older genres, the Fiil CC2 may be your top choice. One anomaly I did notice is that the sound quality is markedly different between the A2DP profile and the HFP profile. Some difference is normal due to the different specifications of the profiles (a limitation of how Bluetooth works and not specific to this unit), however, the difference seemed to be more than I've experienced with other Bluetooth headsets - in particular, the sound quality on HFP profile (phone calls) sounded noticeably muffled compared to the A2DP profile and compared to the HFP profile of other headsets. It was noticeable, but not significant enough to impede a lengthy phone call. In good news, the microphone quality appears to be good, and my callers had no problems hearing me.All this makes the TrueAir2 sound relaxed, even though it's got plenty of punch in the lower frequencies. There's a steady mid-bass thump, and the bass sounds lovely deep as well. As these are half-in-ears, don't expect the biggest ear-shaking rumbles - the speaker just doesn't go into your ear canal deep enough - but there's enough body and depth in the bass. The bass doesn't sound muddy (as it sometimes does on half-in-ears), it doesn't distort in bass-heavy songs; it's present but not too powerfull.

Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz and Beautiful by James Blunt both show off the highly impressive frequency response and lucid soundstage. All of Me by John Legend shows how well vocals are represented - baritone, falsetto, counter tenor all extend beyond the orchestral elements enough to strike a good balance between breadth and warmth. Instrument separation is tougher with female voices - mezzo-soprano's like Leona Lewis see the mids recess a tad. But I'm splitting heirs here, if this is all I have to complain about then that speaks volumes. The only other thing that irked me was that it can be difficult to find out which way to open the case. There is a groove to indicate this, however, the groove is very shallow, and unless you're paying attention, it can take a bit of touching to figure out which way to open the case. The earbuds are a hard plastic unibody unit, with no replaceable earbuds (i.e. one size fits all), however, I found it a very good fit, even whilst running, and very comfortable, even after hours of use. It is hard to comment on fit in great detail as everyone's ears are different, however, given the relatively light weight of the unit, I suspect most people would find it quite comfortable.

The unit is very well thought out, and this is noticeable in some of the minor details. For instance, each earbud, the inside of the case as well as the outside of the case all have LEDs so you can be sure of the battery level and charging status, and the earbuds power on when you remove them from the case, and not when the case is opened. While the Sonic were fatiguing, the TA2 are nothing short of joyful. The 14.2mm drivers are no doubt a help, but it goes beyond this - many earbuds at this price point have the same driver size and sound awful. SoundPeats get it bang on with the tuning of the TrueAir2 - even the soundstage, for buds of this type and price, is impressively airy.
