The screen door flew open and Tyler came in with a large plastic bag that smelled of Chinese takeout. “Hey, no hanky-panky, okay?” he said. “I’m underage until March fifteenth, and until then my tender soul can’t bear to be corrupted. Least of all within my own gene pool.” I enjoyed this book very much. It is definitely a different type of ghost story. I really liked the juxtaposition of the high tech with the old fashioned. It is a little bit hard to believe that the town has managed to hide Katherine from outsiders for so long. But they do seem to have the help of a government agency at "the Point" that helps maintain the secrecy. extry points given to me, by me, for choosing a book that has been in my house for more than a year. I’ll note that women have very little to do in this book (even Katherine mostly just stands around being scary), and there’s the occasional weird gendered moment in this book, particularly w/r/t boobs. Since I was enjoying the book so much (slash, being terrified out of my wits by it), I was able to roll my eyes and skate past it, but your mileage may vary. Read this book if you like sleeping with the light on and your head under the covers."— The Mary Sue

I]ntriguing premise . . . Heuvelt develops his characters enough to give their tragic lives resonance” — Publishers WeeklyMe gustó la sensación que crea la bruja y todo lo que la involucra. Esperando a que empezase a matar. Hex starts off really well, the creep factor was so high that reading it at half five in the afternoon felt far too close to bedtime for comfort. For me, it's not so much that it features a witch, but that the witch acts more like a ghost. Who can turn up in your house, at any time. Awful. Just awful.

So,” he said, still panting, his hands high on his hips. “Mulder and Scully been lining the coffers again?” HEXis reminiscent of vintage Stephen King, and I can think of no higher praise. Chilling, moving and . . . profound.”—John Connolly In this day and age, it’s difficult to conceive that anything that went on in the world, particularly in America, would be able to escape the glare of the seemingly omnipotent social media network, and on the whole you’d be right. Thomas Olde Heuvelt’s novel Hex, however, not only challenges this assumption but does so in such an interesting way that you’ll begin to wonder what else is being hidden in plain sight.

About the Author

it’s not a perfect book - again, the characters are just there to move the plot along, there’s a sexual assault in the jail that seems unlikely and gratuitous, and it doesn’t quite commit to exploring all the doors of its own reveal, but it’s winky-clever and surprising and it just explodes into smalltown mass-panic chaos at the end like stephen king writing salem directed by michael bay. El libro: Hex Olde Heuvelt is a multiple winner of the Paul Harland Prize for best Dutch work of fantastic fiction (2009 and 2012). Translated into English, his short story "The Boy Who Cast No Shadow", published by PS Publishing in the UK, was nominated for the Science Fiction & Fantasy Translation Awards in 2012. [2] The same story was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novelette in 2013. [3] The music had lured the cook at Ruby’s Ribs to come out from behind his grill. Joining the other spectators, he gazed suspiciously at the barrel organ. Steve walked around them, wiping his forehead dry with his arm. When he saw that the beautifully lacquered side of the organ was actually a swinging door, and that the door was ajar, he could no longer suppress a smile. The organ was completely hollow inside, all the way to the axle. Katherine was standing motionless in the dark as Lucy shut the door and hid her from view. Now the organ was an organ again. And boy, did it play.

But then reality starts to set in while you are reading this book. These characters are bat-shit crazy. They are mean as snakes. You have one father that is a main character who pretty much admits he has a favorite son...and it's not the gay one. You have women constantly put down..one was made fun of the whole entire book because she was fat. Another had an abnormally high forehead that the author couldn't s this was written in 2013 and originally set in a small dutch town, and i really liked this part of the author’s afterword:It's that time of year again. When the leaves start turning and the air gets cooler...wut? I live in the south. That crap ain't happening. But I still wanted some scary reading. This chilling novel heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in mainstream horror and dark fantasy. A] touch of strangeness, of alienness, avoiding sub-Stephen King clichés. [Olde Heuvelt] has written five novels already, and publishers should be lining up to translate them.”—The Wall Street Journal
