When building a full AdMech army, expect to be building multiple copies of the exact same box. In some cases, like Serberys or Ironstriders, expect to be building lots of them. So what changed and how big a deal is it? We dove into the app this morning to find out and summarize the biggest impacts. For the most part, Power Levels changed to be in-line with the current points costs of units, though there were a few areas where it seems like strategic decisions have been made with Strategic Reserves costs in mind. All six of these battleforces are coming this December, so stay tuned to Warhammer Community for more details.

Chaos Spawn are now 1 PL per model. That’s pretty good for an underrated unit that can benefit from being placed in Strategic Reserves and given Contaminated Monstrosity to shrug off wounds. Most of the Grey Knights’ non-vehicles have the Teleport Strike ability, preventing them from using Strategic Reserves and others can be put into a teleportarium for 1 CP with the Teleportarium Stratagem, so this PL update isn’t the biggest deal for them. Purifier Squads don’t have this ability however, and went down by 2 PL (from 9), while Purgation Squads also held firm. The Nemesis Dreadknight also came down to 9 PL from 11, making it cheaper to put into Strategic Reserves. Imperial Knights Fortunately, getting started with Admech is pretty easy, with the one-box option of Combat Patrol: Adeptus Mechanicus. This gets you an Enginseer, 10 Skitarii, 3 Kataphrons, and a Onager Dunecrawler which will give you a good introduction to the Omnissiah. There are two previous bundles that you might see, hidden away at your friendly local game store: Start Collecting! Adeptus Mechanicus and Start Collecting! Skitarii. These are both out of print now, but you can occasionally find them at MSRP which makes them a great deal. In a straight shooting match, there are few armies that can go toe-to-toe with AdMech. For Admech has a simple way of stopping some big mean greenskin from tearing them a structurally superfluous new data-port: use a gun. And if that don’t work, use more guns.Somethign to keep in mind is that many of these units are cheap (in points) and expensive (in dollars) at the same time. Frequently, the strongest way of taking them in spamming large units, 5x Ironstriders, 20x Skitarii, etc. This is where the money-intensive aspect of the army comes in – whatever you want to build, you are probably going to want a lot of it. It is gonig to be time-consuming to build and paint, and you are vulnerable to having a ton of expensive models that then fall out of the meta or get significantly changed in a new codex. If you love the faction that isn’t so big of a deal, but do think about it before you buy in hard. The equipment can vary massively based on which Magos, Mechanicus Organisation or Forge World has raised and equipped them. There is little standardisation or central command of Skitarii across the Mechanicus, as each individual regiment is the personal army of a particular Magos. For example, the Skitarii of the Titan Legion Legio Invicta are gene-bulked humans with weaponised limbs and augmetic armour [4], whereas a different type of Skitarii investigated the dead world of Tarsis Ultra, and were seen to be wearing something similar in both function and design to Terminator armour. [2] Bikers went up to 5 PL for the base squad, stayed at 9 for the +3 bikers option and went down to 13 for the full-size option. That’s helpful if you wanted to put them in Strategic Reserves, either by themselves or with other units. Skitarii Rangers/Skitarii Vanguard down to 5PL from 7PL for a max unit of 10 (and units of 5 are down to 3PL from 4PL).. Plaguebearers got hosed however, going to 5 PL. This means that a squad of 20 costs 2 CP to put into reserves with Denizens or outflank with Strategic Reserves, so you’ll still end up using Denizens, which doesn’t keep upscaling on cost.

Magnus the Red went up to 24 PL. This doesn’t change that much for him, since he still costs 3 to put into Strategic Reserves. For the first game, they couldn't take out a unit of Ork boys. Sure, they were in 1st phase of waagh, but failing to score a single model kill was sad. All it did in 2 turns was giving me 7 VP. Complicated– This applies in a couple ways. AdMech models are complicated to physically build, as they’re fragile and require an exceptional amount of patience. In addition to this, the faction has some of the most complex rules in the entire game. You have Skitarii benefiting from Doctrina Imperatives (except when they don’t) but not benefiting from Canticles of the Omnissiah (except when they do). Kastelan Robots who don’t have the Core keyword unless they are within 3″ of a Cybernetica Datasmith, and you have Kataphrons who aren’t infantry but can nonetheless breach walls Kool-Aid Man style. You have buffs you can hand out to Skitarii Core units within 6″ or to any Core unit anywhere on the battlefield so long as that unit has the Data-Tether keyword. You have warlord traits and relics you can give troops, and an HQ choice that can optionally be his own Supreme Command detachment. The options, and their complexity, are seemingly endless.

A Psychomancer cryptek leads the force, with a unit of 10 Necron Warriors and three Scarab Swarms making up the durable centre. The real killing work falls to a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, three Ophydian Destroyers, five Flayed Ones, and two huge Canoptek Doomstalkers. Many of these units recently received the CORE keyword as part of the Balance Dataslate , and enjoy a new lease of life**. Pteraxii Sterylizors– Another kit released with Psychic Awakening, they are the yin to the Serberys’s yang. Cheap to field, surprisingly fast flying infantry. They come with some deep-strike deployment courtesy of their Thermal Riders abilities, a ranged threat with their auto-hit Phosphor Torch, as well as a melee threat with their talons. For Chaos Space Marines there are a few units we’ll be interested in putting in Strategic Reserves and the changes to Chaos Daemons affect the faction significantly in armies that want to summon daemons. Karandras comes down by a point, while Fuegan and Maugan Ra both go up 1. Mostly this is shuffling stuff for Crusade.Warhammer Community: Tridents, Harpoons, and Very Large Spears: Learn to Fish with these Aquatic Imperial Knights (Posted on 17/12/2021) (last accessed 17th September 2023)
