A seminal memoir about two brothers—one an award-winning novelist, the other a fugitive wanted for robbery and murder. A gripping, unsettling account, Brothers and Keepers weighs the bonds of blood, tenderness, and guilt that connect Wideman to his brother and measures the distance that lies between them.” A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers

Television: Find Out Why • Timon & Pumbaa ( videography) • Timon and Pumbaa's Wild About Safety • The Lion Guard ( videography) • It's UnBungalievable! A story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.” Prince of Tides by Pat ConroyThe plot is perfectly structured; it gives hints of things to come, while at the same time teasing you with false trails and dead-ends. There’s nothing superfluous however, and this was that rare book that made me literally laugh out loud and cry in public (especially embarrassing as I’m a postie, and was listening to this on audiobook …). Farmers Robert, David and Roger are series regulars on Springtime on the Farm and The Yorkshire Vet and also appeared on the flagship Channel 5 programme The Great Yorkshire Show. I'm really not sure what I think about this book so I'm going bang splat in the middle with 3 stars. Ben Elton was born on 3 May 1959, in Catford, South London. The youngest of four, he went to Godalming Grammar school, joined amateur dramatic societies and wrote his first play at 15. He wanted to be a stagehand at the local theatre, but instead did A-Level Theatre Studies and studied drama at Manchester University in 1977. However, I didn't feel the language used represented the time period but I'm not sure if Elton did this deliberately as he does tend to not follow the rules generally. I also felt it was a bit of a fluffy war read, if you want to read about WW2 without actually getting your hands dirty or your heart broken this is the book for you.

An exultant novel about China and America, love and loyalty, the identities we invent and the true selves we discover along the way. Olivia Laguni is half-Chinese, but typically American in her uneasiness with her patchwork family. And no one in Olivia’s family is more embarrassing to her than her half-sister, Kwan Li.” I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith What of the novel? Well, I was quite engrossed but it just did not hit the mark for me. The book really does show quite how ridiculous the rationale behind the Nazi ideology was. That was the stand-out. The other part that I found fascinating is what people, in the case Jewish Berliners, would do or had to do just to survive. It was just that I did not find the characters particularly likeable, apart from the mother, and the plot was a little slow and cumbersome. He is married to Anita and has a daughter Poppy who works in television and film as a makeup artist. There’s Momma, Dad, little sister Joetta, and brother Byron, who’s thirteen and an ‘official juvenile delinquent.’ When Momma and Dad decide it’s time for a visit to Grandma, the Watsons set out on a trip like no other. They’re heading South to Birmingham, Alabama, toward one of the darkest moments in America’s history.” On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson Ponyboy…knows that he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he can count on his friends…But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up on ‘greasers’ like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect—until the night someone takes things too far.” The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Sent to Auschwitz on the first Jewish transport, Rena Kornreich survived the Nazi death camps for over three years. While there she was reunited with her sister Danka. Each day became a struggle to fulfill the promise Rena made to her mother when the family was forced to split apart—a promise to take care of her sister.” Riding the Bus with My Sister: A True Life Journey by Rachel SimonThe inspiring true story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother, and an ordinary American family’s extraordinary journey to understand, nurture, and celebrate the uniqueness in us all, from the Pulitzer Prize–winning science reporter for The Washington Post.” The Brontës: Wild Genius on the Moors: The Story of a Literary Family by Juliet Barker Birthday Gift | Personalized Children's Book - What Will Your Child Be? Then he tells us that they were very bad. They did bad things. And did you know that they were bad?
