Description

Frontlit ereaders tend to have slightly grayer text than non-frontlight ebook readers and subtle shadows near the LED lights—the Kobo Glo is no exception. In December 2010, the original Kobo's feature set was updated with a firmware update to more closely match the Wifi model. [38] Kobo Wi-Fi [ edit ] The brightness of the light is adjustable with an on-screen slider bar, and unlike the Kindle Paperwhite, the frontlight can be turned off completely by pressing a button along the top edge of the device. Kobo crams 1.5 million pixels into its 6.8" Aura H2O e-reader". Ars Technica. April 2016 . Retrieved 16 April 2013. Kobo Glo runs on the Kobo Firmware, based on the Linux kernel. The software is available in 8 languages and 2 variants: English, French, Canadian French, Japanese, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Kozlowski, Michael (24 April 2015). "The Kobo Glo HD Has a Hidden SD Card". Good e-Reader . Retrieved 20 May 2023. Next to the Paperwhite, the Glo’s light is definitely brighter, but it’s not as well distributed and there’s a clear strip of light at the top where the LEDs are. With the light turned on the Glo’s screen is easy to read, but the text looks a little more washed out. The Clara HD was released on 5 June 2018. [51] It has a 6-inch, 300 ppi screen. [52] Kobo Aura One [ edit ] This no-nonsense approach to product design continues with a ComfortLight that's always on. Unlike the Kindle Voyage it does't react to ambient light levels. It's a purely a manual process to tweak the brightness levels.By the way, don't look at the fact that I have really high Karma. Some dude donated me all that in my first "Introduction" thread! I'm still a noob here. One of the best bits of Kobo’s higher-end ereaders like the Kobo Glo is the interface, which is thoroughly tasteful, intuitive and lovely to look at. Most importantly, it puts your most-recently read books within a tap of the homescreen, which shows five thumbnails in decreasing size. Books can be viewed in a list view or grid view in the user's library. They can be arranged based on title, author, file size, file type, and when they were last opened. Users can also arrange their books into collections. The lights are about as problematic as each other. Where the Kindle fires upwards from the bottom of the screen, the Kobo Glo fires downwards from the top, and the light dispersion isn’t completely consistent. If that doesn't help, try a factory reset. The method depends non the device. And either give the steps or a reference.

Overall, the Kobo Glo is a decent e-reader with good features and an average design. It doesn’t score a definitive win over the Nook or Kindle, but it is competitive in a way previous efforts from the company weren’t. Highs As I said in the intro, the light is pretty impressive and can be adjusted with an onscreen slider. At its brightest setting, it's very bright in a dark room, so you'll want to turn it down to midlevel or maybe even lower. While there's a touch of cloudiness at the bottom of the screen where the LEDs are, it's no worse than what you'll see with the Paperwhite and the uniformity is quite good -- the light splays out pretty smoothly across the screen. The color seems a touch different than Paperwhite (it's less white), but I found the hue fine for reading. The high resolution screen is a nice upgrade, but in all honesty the difference is hardly noticeable in real life. Text is a little sharper and clearer, especially smaller text, but the high resolution screen certainly doesn't give enough of a reason to be a deciding factor over another device. For instance, the Sony PRS-T2 with the standard E Ink screen is just as easy to read. If anything the text looks a little darker without the frontlight layer. Look under the word Kobo then go to the bottom edge of the reader – the on/off button has a tiny hole on the left side.IPX8 water resistance is available from both (except on the 10.3-inch models from both brands), as are adjustable illuminated displays for reading in the dark. Most of the higher-end models also allow you to change the hue (or temperature) of the light from cold to warmer yellow for nighttime reading. However, only the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has a front light with an ambient light sensor that auto-adjusts its brightness. That device is also capable of wireless charging, which Kobo doesn’t offer at all. Thanks for the reset procedures. I was not aware of the full reset using the paper clip three times. I hope I don’t have to use it.
