Actually, the big Triangle did more than that, as it was more than hanging on. It gave the orchestra width, depth and even some height, which you'd typically expect from the likes of Audiovector's R3 Arreté and other similarly higher-priced designs. The Borea isn't quite up to that level of presentation, nor should this be expected, but what was being lovingly decanted into my auditory canal was very impressive indeed.

Soundstaging was very good too. Tchaikovsky's Symphony 1 in G Minor, op.13, and Dreams of a Winter Journey (Allegro tranquillo) played by the Berliner Philharmoniker with Herbert von Karajan at the helm, was an atmospheric joy. I was also impressed by the explosive dynamics. The passage starts with a soft, almost enchanting melody on bassoon and flute, which could have you increasing the volume as it's so delicate. However, as the strings start to swirl and a second melody is introduced, you soon find yourself amidst a vast brass fanfare. That escalation takes less than two minutes, and the BR08 kept up with every step change. The BR08 uses Triangle's 25mm EFS silk dome tweeter to handle everything above 3.5kHz. It sports a neodymium magnet and a mechanical cooling system, and its partial horn-loaded surround is said to reduce reflections. The new 160mm midrange driver uses a cone made from the natural cellulose paper previously seen in Triangle's more expensive Esprit Ez. Twin newly designed 160mm fibreglass-coned bass drivers complete the driver complement, handling everything at 215Hz and below. Triangle Borea BR09 Speakers (Pair) are 3-way floor-standing speakers; the largest of the Borea floor-stander range. The flagship BR09’s are perfect for larger sized rooms due to it’s delivery of low-end frequencies and low-power handling. Why the BR09 Speakers? The Borea range employs a dedicated midrange driver constructed from natural cellulose paper for musical transparency without any colouration. The cone profile has been redesigned to improve rigidity and an extended frequency response. For a powerful and rich bass sound, the Borea BR09 features three 160mm bass drivers with rhythmic control and precision. Fiberglass membranes ensure rigidity, whilst maintaining an airy sound with punch and dynamics. Design and Specification

The tweeter, meanwhile, utilises a design that's common throughout the Borea range. We experienced it last year in the Borea BR03 standmounters, and here it features the same unusual two-pronged phase plug, claimed to aid tonal evenness and dispersion. There’s an element of horn loading of the dome, too, due to the dished tweeter surround. It’s all good sport of course, but as an argument it fails to account for the overheads of employing design and production staff, providing a building for them to work in and equipment to work with, marketing and advertising, a dealer margin of perhaps 40%, plus service and support.

Borea BR09 can handle a max power of 170 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Borea BR08 has a max power handling value of 150 watts RMS, 20 watts less than the Borea BR09.The floorstanders have a pedestal, ensuring greater stability, on which four inserts allow the implementation of decoupling spikes. Rubber pads are also provided if the flooring does not allow the use of spikes. Magnetic Grill The Borea BR09’s 25mm silk dome tweeter delivers crisp, detailed highs that are never harsh or fatiguing. The treble is well-extended and airy, capturing the nuances of various instruments аnd vocals with impressive clarity. In addition, the natural and smooth presentation of the high frequencies allows for an immersive and enjoyable listening experience. The big change between the two ranges however is that tweeter. All of the Borea models feature what Triangle calls its Efficient Flow System 25mm silk dome tweeter. This next-generation dome is placed inside a partial horn loaded surround, to reduce reflections, but also a distinctive phase plug (which looks more like two points joining together across the tweeter) that is said to reduce directivity and make for a more homogenous sound. This transducer is powered by a neodymium motor and is coupled to a mechanical cooling system, to ensure better power handling.

The DVAS system considerably reduces the vibration of the speaker and reinforces the notion of neutrality and clarity when listening. It results in a better listening experience with no coloration or structure noise. They come with a 2yr warranty - so did my Q3020i. Registering them online upped that to 5yrs. Triangle seem to offer this if you register online as well... With Natalie Merchant’s “Carnival,” the differences I’d heard in the midrange were a bit more obvious. The Chora 806es seemed to produce more air and space around Merchant’s voice than did the Borea BR08s, which resulted in a more convincing image of her voice, one I felt I could reach out and touch. The acoustic guitar to right of center also seemed surrounded by more space through the Focals, with a hint more sparkle and bite on leading edges. Nonetheless, the laser-like imaging prowesses of these speakers were essentially on a par, as were the width, height, and depth of their soundstages. Given its price, Triangle's Borea BR08 works like a champ. The company has cleverly concentrated on the nuts and bolts of speaker-making while eschewing fancy cabinet finishes and complex designs that divert money away from the basics. The result is an excellent all-rounder that's happy to play any genre and – with some care taken in positioning and system matching – punches way higher than it should. The 6.5” midrange driver’s paper cone is borrowed from the Esprit Ez line, which, per Triangle, “avoids any coloration of the intermediate frequencies to offer stunning realism and tonality.” The cones of the two 6.5” woofers are made of fiberglass, which Triangle chose for its rigidity and “excellent vibratory behavior.” The tweeter’s 1” silk dome is coupled to that diffusing phase plug and rod in what Triangle calls their Efficient Flow System (EFS), to provide “diffusion throughout the room,” which, from what I can understand, means they’re trying to make the high frequencies less directional in a room. The cabinet of the Borea BR09 floorstanding speakers feature high levels of internal bracing, with internal MDF and EVA foam to stiffen the cabinet and prevent unwanted resonances. The structure is able to absorb the vibrations from the bass drivers with the Driver Vibration Absorption System, for improved levels of neutrality and clarity in the music.

The flagship of the range, the Borea BR09 is a floorstander designed in the purest hi-fi tradition. In it's 1.1 meters height, it comprises of technology and TRIANGLE know-how. Its three-way design allocates a transducer to each frequency range for a precise vocal reproduction and depth at low frequency, whilst maintaining a wide soundstage. The twin-pronged diffuser appears to be pinching the silk dome, but look a bit closer and it’s just hovering over – it’s there to help reduce the directivity and improve the dispersion of high frequencies. Beneath the mid-bass driver sits a pair of bass reflex ports. Sensitivity93dB of Triangle Borea BR09 is considered a high sensitivity compared to average stereo speaker which makes Borea BR09 an easy to drive from Sensitivity perspective. If you are planning to power your speaker with a Tube amp which are generally very low power, the Triangle Borea BR09 will be a good choice. The dome is placed inside the partial horn loading, reducing reflections and allowing a clear reproduction of the high frequencies. This transducer is powered by a neodymium motor generating high magnetic power in a compact size. It is coupled to a cooling system, ensuring a better power handling. range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker. I love them and 100% recommend, as ever Richer Sounds Exeter came up trumps and I've shopped with RS for 30 years now, there really is no other place to buy them. The Triangle Borea BR08 sits above the BR07 and its the midway point to the larger BR09. The BR08’s are perfect for larger sized rooms and deliver high-fidelity audio with power and precision. The BR08’s cabinet structure is made of perforated internal panels in MDF and filled with high-density EVA foam to reduce internal vibrations and make the transducer/cabinet combination more rigid and secure.
