Description

Ports: HDMI and DisplayPort connections are both requirements for any good ultrawide monitor, and the best models also include a USB-C port that can send a display signal and charge a connected laptop at the same time. Great monitors should also include a USB 3.0 hub so you can connect peripherals like keyboards, mice, and webcams, since modern laptops come with fewer and fewer ports of their own. Some monitors have KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) switches, allowing you to connect two computers to the same display and switch between the connected USB devices without needing to unplug anything. Resolution: Unless you’re using your monitor exclusively for gaming or watching movies, an ultrawide should have a resolution of 3440×1440 or higher. That’s the same sharpness as a 1440p or “2K” resolution on a non-ultrawide. The text on every 1080p-equivalent (2560×1080) ultrawide we tested was pixelated and hard to read, and on those models the lower resolution negates the extra screen space that makes an ultrawide appealing. 4K- and 5K-equivalent ultrawide monitors aren’t widely available yet. Speaking of the monitor stand, this component on Dell P3421W is very beautiful and neat, with the curved sides perfectly matching the curved monitor. It also feels solid and sturdy, providing more confidence in the usage process. Wireless USB peripherals responding slowly or only working as the distance between itself and its receiver decreases. However, I always prefer using a separate pair of speakers to get the highest audio quality. Moreover, the speakers cannot produce good audio when pressed on such a thin and space-limited monitor. Performance And Display

Due to different video formats (aspect ratio) of DVDs and videos, the monitor may display in screen. Display technology and screen curvature: Ultrawide display panels come in two varieties: IPS (in-plane switching) and VA (vertical alignment). IPS is the better all-around choice, with more-consistent color reproduction and solid viewing angles. VA panels have better contrast ratios but suffer from significant color issues when viewed from an angle, which is problematic for a curved display. With few exceptions, 34-inch ultrawide monitors are curved slightly so that they bend inward toward you, making it easier for you to see the whole screen at once. The curve is measured by the radius; the smaller the radius value, the higher the monitor's curve. For example, a 4000R monitor is barely curved, and an 1800R model is more noticeably so. Most ultrawides are 1800R or 1900R. A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels that are allowed varies depending on the monitor. Refer to Dell Display Pixel Guidelines for more details. Change the color-setting mode in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD) to Graphics or Video, depending on the application. The WQHD resolution (3440 x 1440 pixels) is high, but it’s not uncommon on ultrawide screens. Besides the high resolution, Dell P3421 shows no weak spot with excellent details, sharpness, and a fast response rate of 5ms.Removable stand and Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 100 mm mounting holes for flexible mounting solutions. The IPS panel itself is high quality, with excellent colour accuracy in the default mode: an average Delta E of 0.29 and a maximum of 0.95 are effectively perfect. In that mode, it covers 100% of the sRGB gamut with a 124% volume and 88% of the DCI-P3 space. Brightness consistency is even across the screen too, although it inevitably drops off (by around 10%) at the far edges. However, at the default rate of 8 ms, I did notice the ghosting effect when playing fast and responsive games. Similar to the other ultrawide screens, the Dell P3421 will optimize users’ satisfaction in entertaining and productivity in working. Before dwelling on the highlight features of Dell P3421W, let’s first take a look at its basic specifications. Specifications

In addition, there are up to 5 USB ports, including 1 upstream Type-B port, 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps) Type-A inputs, and 2 USB 2.0 Type-A downstream ports. These rich connectivity options will fulfill all your needs easily. You can pair the monitor with basically every other digital device, and the ports will hardly run out. Unfortunately, P3421W doesn’t include an integrated speaker. Size: Most ultrawide screens measure between 34 and 38 inches diagonally. You can buy a smaller option, but below 34 inches the advantages aren’t noticeable enough to justify the higher price. If you need something smaller, you’re likely to be happier with the resolution and picture quality of a 27-inch 4K monitor or a 24-inch monitor. On the other end of the spectrum, 38-inch ultrawides require a lot of desk space and cost much more than 34-inch models. On certain video and applications with fast moving images, imaging ghosting, which appears as a trailing shadow, may occur. You’ll get the most advanced DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 for video signals and a high-end USB-Type C slot compatible with DP Alt Mode. The USB-C input can transmit 65-watt of power in charge. Color accuracy: Monitors that come calibrated from their manufacturers have better color accuracy than ones that don’t. And since most people don’t calibrate their own monitors, out-of-the-box color accuracy is important. For the best image quality, a monitor should cover as much of the sRGB color gamut as possible; the more gamut coverage a monitor provides, the wider the range of colors it can accurately represent. Make sure that the video cable connecting the monitor to the computer is connected properly and is secure.

With 99% of sRGB color reproduction and 1.07 billion colors, Dell P3421 delivers a vibrant and accurate visual experience. The display is also bright and can cope with ambient light effectively with 300cd/m2 brightness. You don’t get fine control over the colour, with no support for hardware calibration and six basic presets: Standard, ComfortView (think sepia), Movie, Game, Warm, Cool plus one customised colour. But even that custom mode only offers simple tweaks for red, green and blue. Ultrathin bezel minimizes the bezel gap in multimonitor usage, enabling easier setup with an elegant viewing experienceSingle USB Type-C to supply power (PD 65 W) to a compatible notebook while receiving video & data signal.

Of course, you can make the swivel, tilt, pivot, and height adjustments to the stand to suit your sitting posture. There is also a tiny wire hole to help me set up the monitor neatly and save more space. Connectivity And Audio Some USB devices like external portable HDD require higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer. The curved screen provides a 178-degree viewing angle, which is very wide and impressive. Hard-Coating 3H anti-glare layer coat also helps reduce eye strain and glare in the usage process.

This gently curved 34in monitor is boringly good rather than exceptional - and that's absolutely fine

The built-in KVM switch allows you to control up to 2 computers from a singleset of keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor Change the input color format to PC RGB or YPbPr in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD).
