The Snowman: A guide to the music of this festive classic - and who actually sang 'Walking in the Air' | Classical Music". British Council complies with data protection law in the UK and laws in other countries that meet internationally accepted standards. The Snowman has a similarly ordinary domestic setting, but it takes off into fairy tale and soaring fantasy. His great themes are the family, social justice, and the recalcitrant individual as in Gentleman Jim (1980), Unlucky Wally (1987) and The Man (1992). Based on the much loved animation, a book of the film is published by Puffin, bringing words to the story for the first time.

A set of four containing 'The Snowman- Building the Snowman', 'The Snowman- Dressing Up', 'The Snowman- The Party' and 'The Snowman- Walking the Air'. This is Briggs’ most playful work, full of mock footnotes, comical reversals, asides to the reader, while ‘Bogeys frequently think in … misquotations’. The Snowman was the runner-up for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in the UK and won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in the US in 1979. The orchestral score was performed by the Sinfonia of London and the song was performed by Peter Auty, a St Paul's Cathedral choirboy. The two find a sheeted-down motorcycle in the house's garden and go for a ride on it through the woods. These books have been translated into many languages and adapted into films, stage shows and animations. Birmingham Repertory Company produces The Snowman for stage, incorporating the original musical score. John Coates was best-known for co-founding the TVC London animation studio in 1957 together with George Dunning. Blake suggested that the film should not feature dialogue, but instead a through-composed orchestral soundtrack.

Each have some slight surface scratching to the laminate and bumping to the top and tail of the spine.

His early career as a children’s book illustrator reached high points with The Mother Goose Treasury (1966), and Elfrida Vipont’s The Elephant and the Bad Baby (1969), a morally ambiguous tale in which a bad-tempered baby rides the thieving elephant and is chased by tradesmen all the way home. James shows the snowman around his house, playing with appliances, toys and other bric-a-brac, all while keeping quiet enough not to wake James' parents.

He was a fan of Briggs's story When the Wind Blows and later provided a song for its animated adaptation. The production has had several revisions – the most extensive happening in 2000, when major changes were made to the second act, introducing new characters: The Ice Princess and Jack Frost. Father Christmas – Briggs's earlier two works Father Christmas and Father Christmas Goes on Holiday were combined into a film which was released in 1991.

The Snowman flies again in this follow-up to the much-loved Christmas classic - now celebrating its 10th anniversary!

However, in the Channel 4 adaptation, the boy is named James, as this name was needed for the gift tag on his present from Father Christmas. The Snowman was re-released in 2002 as a DVD special edition and again as a DVD and Blu-ray 30th anniversary edition in the United Kingdom on 5 November 2012 by Universal Studios Home Entertainment UK. However, he noted that "in the US programmes were sponsored, and to be sponsored you needed a big name".
