Del Rey Books Visions from the Upside Down: Stranger Things Artbook is an upcoming artbook dedicated to the Netflix original series Stranger Things. It will feature artwork created by over 200 artists from the comic, illustration, fine art, video game, and animation industries. It will be released on October 15, 2019. [1] The use of D&D was a core part of the boys’ friendship and their understanding of the monsters they faced in the show and she wanted to continue that in the comics as a means to "bring Will’s friends into the book via his memories of playing". [2] Besides, she was excited to use her gaming experiences to highlight other characters, particularly Mike. "Mike’s seen as that leader and making sure that his players are feeling comfortable and doing at least a shadow of what they’re supposed to do," she told. Years after escaping Hawkins Lab, two of Dr. Brenner’s former subjects seek to live normal lives. When news reaches them that the lab was shut down they go on a harrowing search for Nine, a powerful pyrokinetic, whose shattered psyche threatens to burn them all to ashes if they can’t find her and free her from her own malevolent imagination.

Michelle: Initially we tried some other typefaces – Cortezand a few others. We were actually working with another typeface for some time and then it got changed to Benguiat, which changed our process a bit. The logotype for the series had been finalized on the production side and we had to adapt. We’d been animating with a typeface for a while and then we changed it. A typeface is like an actor. Once you change the actor it’s a different thing. Where the young man has gone and exactly who – or what – is responsible for his disappearance is a mystery to his friends and family, but answers may lie in the secretive government lab just outside of town – or perhaps somewhere in-between. It’s up to Will’s intrepid friends, his dogged mother and brother, a washed up cop, and a strange girl to discover the truth of what’s lurking below the surface of their seemingly normal town. The Stranger Things Experience is a scary, endearing, hilarious, and joyous celebration of everything we already love about the show."

Michelle: There were! Obviously we looked at all of R/Greenberg’s sequences – Altered States and The Dead Zone specifically. I know we looked at Bullitt by Pablo Ferro because it’s one of my favourite title sequences, but what we were really doing was looking for the optical quality they had rather than the motion design.

Aside from R/Greenberg’s title sequences, were there any other titles from that era that inspired the project? So the sequence is entirely digital, but you did end up shooting a few practical elements for reference, right? STRANGER THINGS’ Writer and Artist on Bringing the Upside Down to Comics Nerdist. September 20, 2018. I see the Mirage era very much as an indie comic style,” Fero says, “grim and gritty but with a special energy and attention to detail. There’s a certain influence of Frank Miller from the 300 and Ronin era, too. I would like to balance the use of shadows with that classic touch of the halftone shadows. I have been using them a lot in the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series as a tribute to the early comics, and I think that now with this story they will fit perfectly!” The Stranger Things opening is not only a fitting successor to a reveredtitle design tradition, but a testament to the power of type in motion and the enormous potency of nostalgia. Everyone’s favorite Hawkins sextet — Eleven, Max, Dustin, Mike, Will, and Lucas — are looking forward to a nice summer trip out of the suburbs and into New York City, according to IDW’s news release, but “a threat both bizarre and familiar” will require help from Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael.

Perri would do the titles over and over to get them perfect. If the film shifted or there was a scratch or blemish, they'd do it again. So they actually looked clean. We had to push the style a bit, imagining a title designer who did them out of their garage without the proper equipment trying to make them as clean as possible. Or maybe someone that had made a mistake. Netflix’s Stranger Things is a series loaded with subtle nods and not-so-subtle homages to some of the most beloved films of the 1980s. Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer channel Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, John Hughes, and everyone in between, delivering a shot of pure nostalgia, a dose of something both familiar to viewers and altogether distinct. Think Tarantino by way of Amblin Entertainment!Stranger Things ( 2016) We never would’ve upset you if we knew you had superpowers. —Dustin Henderson Dr. Orlov's time is running out as his children continue their frantic search for him, now aided by a deadly spy known as Mr. Frost. However, Russian agents are determined to impede them and capture Frost no matter the cost. The good doctor finds himself face to face with the monster he has been kidnapped to save.. Michelle: They really loved the simplicity of those covers, but also those Richard Greenberg titles. To get that kind of brief – to let the typeface set the mood for a show – is a designer’s dream!
