We need the Psalms; not because they will teach us how to be super Christians, but because they teach us how to be human Christians.” Mark 10:45 - " For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” We aim to provide you with the knowledge and support you need to make confident decisions about your

Some of the "Grieving well" section I wish I could have read years ago. Some of the "Taking care of your heart" I’m sure I’ll be reading again in years to come. I’m starting to think this world is just a place for us to learn that we need each other more than we want to admit. Since my very first moments in the job, I have believed that part of serving well would be to know – almost instinctively – when the time is right to make way for someone else. And when that time came, to have the courage to do so – even if, to many across the country and in my party, it might feel too soon. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. John 13:12-14 Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy. Matthew 5:42 Peter 4:10-11 - "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord." Serving Wellis more than a book to sit down and read once. It is a tool box to return to over and over, a companion for dark and confusing days, and a guide for effective and long-lasting service. Elizabeth and Jonathan are the real deal and Serving Well, like the Trotters, is wise, compassionate, vulnerable, and honest. This needs to be on the shelves of everyone involved in international, faith-based ministry." Do some selfless service for people who are in need. Consider the whole picture, not just our little selves.

These Bible verses encourage followers of Jesus to serve others in love and humility, to help those in need, and to honor God through kindness and generosity. God promises to reward people for their faithful service, especially those who are generous to the poor and marginalized. The American Heart Association recommends an overall healthy dietary pattern tailored to your personal and cultural food preferences. Emphasize a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fish, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and liquid, non-tropical plant oils. If you eat poultry or red meat, choose lean or extra lean meats or skinless poultry. Choose foods that are unprocessed or minimally processed where possible. And balance energy intake (calories eaten) and output (physical activity) to maintain a healthy body weight. It’s all about making healthier choices. What’s a serving? Recently I read a lovely book called Serving Well by Jonathan Trotter and Elizabeth Trotter. While it contains many great practical tips and strategies for success in cross-cultural living and working, it is not simply one more 'how-to' manual. Particularly for those in the faith-based communities, the authors continually emphasize the why of service, not simply the how. This is a soul-encouraging book. I highly recommend it." What is it I really need?' is a key question raised in a chapter about sacrifice in Serving Well, a must read book for missionaries and for those who love them. This is a book you really need if you are 'called to go, or called to let go.'

Help for the Wannabe, Newbie, or Weary Cross-cultural Christian Worker

As someone who has been in my host country for 10 plus years this book has a lot I can both resonate with and learn from. I’d forgotten the stress of moving to a new country but reading the Moving Well section reminded me I used to “see danger everywhere”. Asia is now the place I find the easiest to live, so this was a surprise to remember. I’ve heard people around me mention their trailing spouse issues but I haven’t experienced it for myself. Now that I’ve read about just how stressful it can be, and that it can be resolved, hopefully I can be more useful the next time it comes up in my community. Serving God is one of the most important principles of the Christian faith, as believers are expected to help the church with a joyful spirit. “Love one another.” “Care for one another.” “Pray for one another.” “Encourage one another.” “Help one another.” “Counsel one another.” “Support one another.” Scripture repeatedly tells us of our relationship to God and others through service. My preference of using the next Westminster election as a de facto referendum is well known. I’ve never pretended it is perfect – no second-best option ever is – nor that there are no alternatives. That is why I have always been clear that the decision must be taken by the SNP collectively, not by me alone. And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” Luke 12:33-34 Don’t worry, you don’t have to measure everything you eat. We’ve provided a few examples of what represents one serving of common foods. You may eat more than one serving from a food group in a meal, or fewer than one in another meal. As long as you are getting the recommended daily amounts on average over two to three days, you’ll be on target. Vegetables
