An alternate opening to The Lost World: Jurassic Park was for a Japanese fishing boat to pull up a Parasaurolophus carcass in its net, to which the net breaks from the weight of the carcass and disappears into the waters below. [22] Paul Mejias supervised the construction of this sculpture [23] and even though this alternate opening scene never made the final cut, the eighteen-foot carcass was still used in the film in the scenes taking place in the Tyrannosaurus nest and the boneyard. [24] It was later repainted for Jurassic Park III [25] to represent the carcass that the T. rex was eating. [26] It also appeared in the BBC TV series Prehistoric Park, where it became the prey of large carnivores Deinosuchusand Albertosaurus. Originally, the stamped scene in Jurassic Park III was to feature solely Parasaurolophus with their model reused from The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but Corythosaurus was added to the stamped when director Joe Johnston and visual effects supervisor Jim Mitchell felt there needed to be more variety. The Corythosaurus was created from the Parasaurolophus model from The Lost World: Jurassic Park. [39] The Parasaurolophus from the film received a new color scheme. Other proposals were more physical in nature. As mentioned above, William Parks suggested that it was joined to the vertebrae with ligaments or muscles, and helped with moving and supporting the head. [5] Othenio Abel proposed it was used as a weapon in combat among members of the same species, [32] and Andrew Milner suggested that it could be used as a foliage deflector, like the helmet crest (called a 'casque') of the cassowary. Halszka Osmólska suggested that it housed salt glands, [33] and John Ostrom suggested that it housed expanded areas for olfactory tissue and much improved sense of smell of the lambeosaurines, which had no obvious defensive capabilities. The people creating this baby definitely based it on the concept art and design models of the TLW movie. In fact, I’ve seen model pictures made for the film that show a Parasaurolophus model with the exact same pose and detail as this one. A good move on Kenner’s part, something I wish they had done for more of their toy sculpts. The paint job is similar to the colour pattern the Parasaurolophus in the movie featured, except less detailed (it’s a toy after all). Despite its appearances usually being little more than cameos, Parasaurolophus has physically appeared on-screen in all six films of the Jurassic Park franchise, a distinction shared with the more famous and iconic Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, and Velociraptor.

Later, Parasaurolophus was one of the many dinosaurs that Dr. Alan Grant and the Kirby family saw on a riverbank. [5]This mural is based on an old belief that P. walkeri and P. cyrtocristatus were not separate species but rather represented the male and female respectively of one single species.
