A Cottage in the Woods is an extended interview with Bowles, who gives a more detailed explanation about the design and construction of the sets for Dog Soldiers. In that manner this film has aged badly, yet if that’s your kind of thing you’ll have a riot, and remember the ‘good old days’ when PC culture hadn’t quashed such attitudes. From the director of The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion and episodes of Game of Thrones, comes this terrifying thriller starring Kevin McKidd ( Trainspotting), Sean Pertwee ( Event Horizon), Emma Cleasby ( Doomsday) and Liam Cunningham ( Game of Thrones).

The Second Sight 4k remastered Dog Soldiers blu ray uses the original film negative (that was thought to be lost) that Neil Marshall found. The 16 mm camera negative was scanned at 4K resolution by Silver Salt Restoration in the UK, with an interpositive being used for several effects shots. The first Blu-ray release in 2009 utilized an aging master that was originally created for the DVD, and it simply couldn’t hold up to high-definition scrutiny. Digitally there are no compression issues, the source is clean and bright, and that beautiful grain structure give a wonderful filmic presentation.That shows in such hilarious scenes as when the Sarge exclaims ‘‘Sausages’’ as he lays there with his guts hanging out, only moments before the dog of the house had been pulling at his intestines thinking it was getting a tasty meal of the aforementioned meat delicacy.

I'll be interested in the reviews of this new release but it's only a blu-ray so I'll probably give it a miss despite that stunning cover art.The biggest omission is the commentary track from the 2003 UK DVD that featured Marshall, McCurdy, McKidd, Pertwee, Cunningham, and producer Keith Bell.
