Sometimes, we just want to relax and get those warm fuzzies in our stomaches, not feel like the room just heated up twenty degrees (though sometimes that happens anyway). A great turning point in the series with the characters being more open on the plans for the future and excited for the next volume! Or plotted poorly, or just lacking some aspect of storytelling that would be a dealbreaker for other readers.

I just read a cute book (Faking it Under the Mistletoe) and was so disappointed that after all this build up, the sex scene was just a fade-to-black. One event in one of the books will set off many smaller events that persist throughout the next few. Non-spicy romance is obviously the umbrella term I’m using for this article but honestly, I’m unclear on what exactly it means, too. Overwhelmingly, women’s fiction/romance/erotica tops the charts in terms of physical book sales and book deals to this day.It’s not that books that are primarily focused on the spicy aspects can’t be well-written and well-developed, have compelling plots and characters, all that good stuff, but… those elements are often secondary to the main driving force of the story: the romance. The characters are written SO well, and reading the little insights and the thoughts of Lawrence made me fall in love with the series all over again.

In reading community parlance, this is usually demarcated by the chili pepper emoji, with one pepper meaning it’s not very spicy or mildly spicy and anything higher than three chili peppers usually signifying that, uh, yeah, you’re in for a time. I don’t think this subgenre usually has any spice in it but I kind of don’t like the implication that romances with sex aren’t sweet. Her story is also one of sexual awakening, and she explores these new feelings with a curiosity and freedom that are refreshing . I’d like to say one final time, that Spice and Wolf never becomes bad, and as a whole it is an above average series. On a side note however they should definitely have the VAs continuously read their respective characters.This is an important part of the series to be adapted, where the main characters have been through trouble together and come closer, they aren't yet close enough to consider each other a "couple" and this volume helps bridge that gap.
