I found the part where Annabel was born and instantly handed over to Mary Poppins heartbraking, but an honest portrayal of the time.

Several losses and tears to jacket, mainly at edges and ends, otherwise a sturdy, attractive copy of this famous classic. And before they had time to break out again, she had put on their hats and was hurrying them down the stairs. All four are in very good plus condition with illustrated covers and black and white drawings in the text by Mary Shepard. I have no real complaints with her narration, and I think I'll be sad if any of the other books in the series are narrated by anyone else. The stage musical was transferred to Broadway, in New York, in 2006, where it ran until its closing on 3 March 2013. We loved the fact that Mary Poppins is disgusted by a bird being put in a cage and not only sets the lark free but traps Mr Bank's old Nanny in cage so she can experience what it feels like. Mary Poppins Comes Back in publisher's full green cloth, blue lettering on spine, blue lettering and illustration on cover, t. Banks is insufferable and probably needs a nanny more than Jane and Michael (and those twins and new baby).

The 1981 revised version was included in BBC Radio 4's 2004 adaptation of Mary Poppins starring Juliet Stevenson. The magic is still kind of fun to read in parts, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it (like, who IS Mary Poppins? The kids go on adventures, Mary Poppins is still vain and not-so-nice, and I still giggled every time the word "perambulator" was used because I can't get over that word for some reason. Her short fiction and poetry have appeared in numerous print and online publications, including Clarkesworld Magazine, Apex Magazine, Daily Science Fiction, Strange Horizons and Fantasy Magazine. As is typical with many second books, the formula is the same as the first, almost chapter-for-chapter.But not everyone knows that Mary Poppins is the first in a whole series of books, and that the tone of the books is quite different from the Disney version of events. Although Travers was an adviser to the production she disapproved of the dilution of the harsher aspects of Mary Poppins's character, felt ambivalent about the music and disliked the use of animation to such an extent that she ruled out any further adaptations of the later Mary Poppins novels. This time, they visit her cousin Fred Twigley, befriend a statue that has come to life, go riding on peppermint horses, and experience a garden party under the sea. x 5", blue pict green cloth, 268pp, covers a bit rubbed and darkened at the top, extremities lightly fraying, spine ends bumped, tiny old adhesions spot to top forecorner of front fly, tiny old bookseller label inside rear cover, pp toned, in a rubbed, darkened, edge-chipped (especially at spine) and torn but SCARCE dustjacket. And Mary Poppins does soften once in a bit -- mostly when one of the children compliments her, naturally. This time, Jane and Michael meet the fearsome Miss Andrew, experience an upside-down tea party, and visit a circus in the sky. One of the reasons why I actually prefer the movie(s) is their way of showing the impact, of just how dearly Mary Poppins was needed to bring together a family and keep it safe. Up and up went the tossing tail, darting through the air until it seemed but a faint dark speck on the sky.

Very Good+ hardback, edges of text block lightly soiled, FFEP tanning, in a Very Good or Very Good+ clipped jacket, small losses and edgewear to jacket, a few spots of foxing on jacket, now protected in a Brodart. This time I was more familiar with Travers’s version of Mary Poppins and was able to just enjoy the stories like children-at-heart are supposed to. A fair only copy with notable soiling to boards, previous owner's name and address crossed out on front fixed end page, and cracked front hinge, though pages are holding. If you've seen the Disney movie, you could easily pick up this book and start from here; if you know nothing about Mary Poppins, I'd recommend starting with Mary Poppins.

I had no such reaction this time, although Mary Poppins is certainly a stern taskmaster at times, not to mention vain.

She takes charge of the children once again (though she'll only stay "'til the chain of her locket breaks"). Primarily based on the first novel in what was then a sequence of four books, it also lifted elements from the sequel Mary Poppins Comes Back. Book is Fine except for bumps to head and heel of spine and a couple of spots on the top page edges. L. Travers on the front free endpaper, inscribed to former owner, "thanking him for his work on 'Mary Poppins.
