To me the combination of focal length and depth of field is perfect for street photography as it allows a lot of light to hit the sensor and wide enough to do environmental portraiture. This 7Artisans 25mm is a lot better than the Meikes when it comes to focusing but my 25mm copy is like a tempered fish eye lens; barrel distortion is quite noticeable and so I have to adapt my shooting style and will try to avoid shooting subjects with lines on the background. PS - I have no financial link with any of this - just the interest of a photographer with "shallow" rather then "deep"-pockets!

Other characteristics worth mentioning is that there is some barrel distortion, and some noticeable vignetting.

lens and yet most things in the frame are sharp if my main subject is at least 2 meters away from me. It’s only if you’re shooting a white wall where you’ll notice it more, and really, how many of us are going to be shooting white walls all the time ;)? My first SL related review is of the 90mm Summicron-SL, which I actually just finished typing right now. Considering the interior of my lens was a speckled mess, it is likely no quality control, which means a lot of really crap lenses get sent out.

As for flare, depending on how you angle it towards the sun, it may exhibit the occasional flare but overall, I didn’t have many issues with this. lens is definitely soft in the corners, and while sharpness throughout the image does improve as you stop the lens down, there is still slight softness in the corners at f8. Once we take a step back, both lenses are pretty identical when it comes to center sharpness : that's to say extremely sharp, even wide open. The Meike / 7-Artisans manual 25mm's are both heavier than my Lumix 25mm - so this Meike lens has to earn its place in my bag through its extra creative potential !It can avoid the complex background around the photo and allow the focus of the photo to focus on the subject of the photo to create a better picture atmosphere.

I like this focal length for my day to day because it is still a standard lens as in they are close to human’s eyes focal length, but just a bit wider than a 50mm. I suspect it’s likely something to do with the focus plane not being calibrated properly in the manufacturing process. Corner sharpness is never really good, but as long as you keep your subject in the center of the frame it should be alright in my opinion. It took me a while to get the pictures for all my SL reviews but now that I have them, the reviews will come out quicker. As you can see in the photos, it’s very compact; it kind of reminds me of older manual lenses, which is actually what drew me to the lens, and made me want to try it in the first place. Just fixed the aperture around f8-f11 and fixed the focus like 2-3 meters away from you and the camera. That particular image isn’t a straight-out-of-camera JPEG, although some others in this article are.
