For Those Left Behind: Guidance on Death and Grieving

Don't ask for an explanation. Survivors often feel as though they're being grilled: Was there a note? Did you suspect anything? The survivor may be searching for answers, but your role for the foreseeable future is simply to be supportive and listen to what they have to say about the person, the death, and their feelings. This poem is a favorite for its simplicity ending with “If there’s another world, he lives in bliss; If there is none, he made the best of this.” God took another angel, And that angel, dear, was you. Angel wings, upon the clouds, Your body softly sleeps, This funeral poem can be used for anyone but it is particularly suited for male loved ones, especially fathers. It embraces death as the beginning of a journey instead of the end. This poem encompasses both the pain of losing the woman you hold dearest and the gratitude for her existence.
