Find out more about The British Book Awards 2023, the winners and the full shortlist. About This Edition ISBN: You can be a champion for another person, and try your best to support them in what they do. I hope you’ll learn that there are people around you who are championing you right now, and that you can even be a champion for the people who are close to you, too. Marcus talks about his life, community, school, family, friends, as well as his career in football. He speaks about his ups and downs, providing brilliant advice from himself and important people in his life throughout. Now, you might be wondering why I’ve started a book called You Are a Champion with a story about losing a game for a championship. But I’m telling you this story to show you that there’s more than one way to win. There’s more than one way to do things. How to learn, how to problem solve and more. Everyone has different skills and talents and we all go on a journey learning how to use them well. What’s really interesting to Marcus and myself is that a personal journey can take you to places you might not expect, but can be amazing all the same. I once had a dream like Marcus to be a footballer, but as I got older I discovered I liked writing; eventually I found a way to put my two skills together to become a football journalist. There are always options and things to explore, and I think it’s great to explore them wherever possible.

You Are a Champion by Marcus Rashford - Pan Macmillan

It’s hard to know what is possible until you start. You have to be able to dream big and be prepared to work towards your dreams. I’ve achieved a lot so far, but it didn’t come in one go; big things rarely happen overnight, and good things rarely happen as if by magic . . . No matter who you are and no matter where you come from, every single person in the world has the potential to be a champion. In You Are A Champion, the nation’s favourite footballer gives you the tools you need to reach your full potential, showing you how to be the very BEST version of yourself you can be. Whilst he is only 23, he has inspired the world with his work to provide support for those who were already struggling before the global pandemic that is Covid-19. Before he became a global star, Marcus was just a young boy, an average kid from Wythenshawe in South Manchester – with a dream. This book gives every child the tools they need to reach their full potential. With chapters covering everything from building your confidence to navigating adversity, finding your team, using your voice and stand up for other. And never stopping learning. With action points at the end of each chapter featuring brilliant advice and top tips from performance psychologist Katie Warriner, this is a practical guide for every child to believe that their dreams can come true. Books for children Magic Breakfast and Macmillan Children’s Books announce official partnership to launch the new Marcus Rashford Book Club with schools in disadvantaged areas of the UK 19/04/2021As Marcus puts it, “a person’s life is made up of all these different small puzzles, which come together to make one HUGE puzzle. When you start out, your personality and the world around you gives you different pieces to work with, and it's up to you how you want to make a picture with it. Your dreams are how big you want to make the puzzle.” One thing we both believe is that everyone is allowed to have dreams. It is not a privilege or something that must be earned, but that every child can dream. Of that special future. Of that good thing. Or even that strange thing. Everyone should be allowed to be happy and have that niche hobby. Everyone should be allowed to be understood and encouraged to look across the horizon and say “This thing excites me, I’m going to try it!” Show there are options to your options It was the biggest game of my international soccer career. The biggest game for the England team and fans in fifty-five years. And in one of the most important moments, I missed a chance to give us a lead. In the end, England lost that final 3–2 to Italy. I have been struggling a lot with my confidence and this book has really helped me. Marcus speaks about believing in yourself and learning to understand your strengths and embracing them. Carl Anka, co-writer of Rashford's first book You Are A Champion, explains why they both felt it was so important to write a book which tells children that with self-belief and hard work, anything is possible. Marcus Rashford MBE is Manchester United’s iconic number 10 and an England international footballer. His lobbying of the UK government during the pandemic made Marcus a household name, outside of sports fans, as he successfully lobbied a u-turn of their policy around free school meals. As Marcus sees it there’s more than one way to be a champion, and everyone has the ability within themselves to do amazing things. You don’t need to come number one in a competition to say you’re the best, because everyone is already the best at something - being themselves.Tear up the rule book. Find your own lane. You are only in competition with yourself. In this inspiring, positive and practical guide, Marcus gives YOU the tools you need to reach your full potential and will show you that your possibilities really can be endless. Books for children The books that made me: You Are a Champion co-author Carl Anka shares the books that shaped him 25/05/2021 I have been a Manchester United supporter for as long as I can remember. Right from being a kid who had no real interest in football other than wearing a 'Rooney' Manchester United shirt and a pair of total 90's to mischievously challenge my very passionately Liverpool-supporting Dad, to being an adult, who, through watching and learning about the game with my partner has made me a big fan of the game and the players.
