The Forty Farms exhibition will be in the Gallery, Rheged, Penrith LA8 9NB from now until 4 January 2023.

Entry to the is free and all are welcome. Rhian Harris, Chief Executive Lakeland Arts says, “As an arts and heritage charity, Lakeland Arts encourages creativity and the exploration of landscape and identity. We’re delighted to be hosting Forty Farms which brings to life the stories of local farmers who for generations have been fundamental in shaping the landscape and culture of this region.” Cheese, gelato and weddings – Making a Family Dairy Farm Sustainable. Jen Lee shares her 10-year journey including creating Cumbria’s first organic and 100 per cent pasture fed dairy herd to producing Torpenhow Cheese and Three Hills Gelato.

Visit the new exhibition by Amy Bateman in our People’s Gallery from the 16th of November until the 23rd of March 2024. Amy is British Life Photographer of the Year. She is the author and photographer behind the Lakeland Book of the Year –‘Forty Farms.’ Forty Farms is a touring exhibition that comes to the South Lakes from Rheged Gallery in the north of the county. It opens on Saturday 4 March and runs until Sunday 4 June. The exhibitors, the programme of free talks and the special film screening combine the chance to buy delicious local produce, meet the makers and hear first-hand about the innovation going on Cumbrian farms to help improve biodiversity and combat climate change.”Over the course of a year, Amy conducted frank conversations about the financial challenge of farming in a fast-changing world; about the tightrope balance of producing quality food for the nation in sensitive heritage landscapes; and about the challenges and opportunities of working in an area that is internationally famed for its beauty.
