Properties can only be developed once a player owns all the properties in that color group. They then must be developed equally. A house must be built on each property of that color before a second can be built. Each property within a group must be within one house level of all the others within that group.Monopoly-themed slot machines and lotteries have been produced by WMS Gaming in conjunction with International Game Technology for land-based casinos. [150] [151] [152] WagerWorks, who have the online rights to Monopoly, have created online Monopoly themed games. [153] Parker Brothers began licensing the game for sale outside the United States in 1936. In 1941, the British Secret Intelligence Service had John Waddington Ltd., the licensed manufacturer of the game in the United Kingdom, create a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis. [15] Hidden inside these games were maps, compasses, real money, and other objects useful for escaping. They were distributed to prisoners by fake charity organizations created by the British Secret Service. [16] 1970s–1980s [ edit ] Garber, Megan (January 9, 2013). "How Monopoly Games Helped Allied POWs Escape During World War II: Even trivial changes to a trivial board game can shift the course of history". Atlantic.com. Atlantic Monthly . Retrieved April 23, 2015. There are no Community Chest cards or spaces. The Chance cards have been added to and changed. A special card, called "Rent Dodge" has been added as well. You get the "Rent Dodge" card when you land on Free Parking. If you have the "Rent Dodge" card and someone else lands on Free Parking before you use it, you need to give them the card. Once used, return the "Rent Dodge" card to Free Parking. There are two buttons on the trading unit: the top circle (hand shaking) and the side (skyscrapers). Press the side button to get the trading unit to spin its red light. It will stop on any one of the four icons (numbers and a railroad).

When the trading unit flashes the “Railroad” icon, you can build a railroad on any of your district for free. Ghettopoly, released in 2003, was the subject of considerable outrage upon its release. The game, intended to be a humorous rendering of ghetto life, was decried as racist for its unflinching use of racial stereotypes. Hasbro sought and received an injunction against Ghettopoly's designer. [187] [191] Family Game Night" (PDF). Archived (PDF) from the original on August 14, 2018 . How To Auction

A player who cannot pay what they owe is bankrupt and eliminated from the game. If the bankrupt player owes the bank, they must turn all their assets over to the bank, who then auctions off their properties (if they have any), except buildings. If the debt is owed to another player instead, all assets are given to that opponent, except buildings, which must be returned to the bank. The new owner must either pay off any mortgages held by the bank on such properties received or pay a fee of 10% of the mortgaged value to the bank if they choose to leave the properties mortgaged.

According to the Parker Brothers rules, Monopoly money is theoretically unlimited; if the bank runs out of money it may issue as much as needed "by merely writing on any ordinary paper".
