It’s very visual and the descriptions are so vivid, I almost felt as if I was there on the streets and in the souks of Marrakech. I admired Clemence as a character, particularly her dedication to caring for her mother, Madeleine, whose mental decline is not only a result of age but of the cruelty she suffered at the hands of Clemence's father, the full details of which gradually emerge.

Night Train to Marrakech - Fantastic Fiction

Siamo in Marocco nel 1966, il Paese sta vivendo un momento di grandi riforme politiche ma si trova al centro delle mire delle nazioni che un tempo ne erano i colonizzatori. Here's what Santa Montefiore said: ‘My ideal read; mystery, love, heart-break and joy – I couldn’t put it down. At some points I thought the story was a little far fetched but it was also enjoyable and kept me guessing to the end. Morocco in the 1960s was a dangerous place, and Vicky and Bea soon found themselves caught up in some very dangerous events. Vicky stayed in a small apartment in the town with Clemence's friend, Etta, as she was waiting for her cousin Beatrice to arrive from London.

The train is more expensive, and the sleeper train more expensive still, but some of the cost is offset by not having to pay for a night in a hostel or hotel.I found Clemence in particular an intriguing character as she seems so cold and secretive at first but as more and more of her story unfolds, the reason for this becomes clear and by the end of the book I had gained a lot of respect and sympathy for her. Vicky Boudin had persuaded her grandfather to give her information on the grandmother that she had never known, elegant Clemence Petier lived in a beautiful Kasbah high in the Atlas Mountains, she loved the solitude but she had unwittingly agreed to a visit from the granddaughter that she had never met. Fez is a popular destination for tourists, but it can be reached directly from Marrakech in a few hours. The cheap bunks are perfectly adequate, assuming there aren’t any rude or loud passengers in the cabin. It was a while since I had read the first two books in the trilogy and in a way that was good, because this book can be read on its own.

I felt the three sisters from those books appeared in this story mainly in supporting roles, providing little details as necessary and relevant. The relationship between Vicky and her grandmother went from frosty to warm in a few pages which I just didn't find convincing. Below you’ll find all the details about the Marrakech to Fes train and everything you need to know before you depart. However, although there were moments early on in my reading when I felt a bit confused because I didn't understand the interrelationships between some of the characters, the author's impressive storytelling skills quickly drew me into what became a truly page-turning story, one full of tension and danger, but also of the power of love. From Marrakech, the train heads up along the coast north to Rabat before making a right and heading east towards Fes.Set in the mid nineteen sixties this is a story about Clemence ( the grandmother) and Vicky (the granddaughter) .
