The idea for her first published novel, The Boy under the Table, was so scary that it took a year for her to find the courage to write the emotional story. It was meant to be an ordinary day. But now my children hold my hands, trembling with terror – and it’s up to me to protect them. When sirens screech through the air, disturbing the peace of our quiet street, I realise that things will never be ordinary again…

Wow, I loved this one so much…. A whole box of tissues were gone in just a few hours. It was so intense that I was sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t put this one down for the life of me. No bathroom breaks at all.’ Blue Moon Blogger, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Told in multiple POV, both in 1st and 3rd person, it can be read as a standalone. The Family Across The Street is my first read by this author and won’t be my last for sure. I really enjoyed it. This story is about a seemingly perfect neighborhood. When a delivery man goes to one of the houses to deliver their laptop, they refuse to open the door and take the parcel. Something has been niggling the delivery man all day about that house and he can’t ignore it anymore… Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, The Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John* seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn. Both books were good, just not on par with what I’ve been reading lately. They certainly kept me entertained despite some glitches overall. If you loved Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica, you will love The Family Across the Street by Nicole Trope. This is not to say that both authors have identical writing styles, but the general vibe of these stories is similar. Both are in a domestic settings, both have a few people in the neighborhood involved so multiple characters to consider suspicious, and both have crazy twists at the end. Most definitely recommended.

Nicole Trope: There is a family where, in a certain moment, something changes in their life, and how they react. Usually there are troubling characters, where I hope to redeem them in some way. I want readers to understand why they behaved the way they did. Many of the books deal with abuse and families in crisis. The writing was exemplary with the drama built between the lines so that I felt the tension rather than reading a description. In addition, I simultaneously experienced empathy for the characters without having it explained to me. I really appreciate a writer that can accomplish this as I’m keen on determining things for myself and thrifty prose. All her books are riveting reads with another two books that readers might want to read first, The Nowhere Girl and The Life She Left Behind. All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make. Sophie is one of the twin children of Katherine and John. She is an innocent victim of the abusive environment at home. George West Set in Sydney, The Family Across the Street (formally named Home Sweet Home pre-publication) by Aussie author Nicole Trope is an intense psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down! I read it in a matter of hours, unable to stop until I’d finished. And the twist near the finish blew me away; I had NOT seen that coming!! One thing though – the blurb is misleading and incorrect in a number of places, which of course I didn’t realise until I had finished, and then read the blurb. But for fans of psychological thrillers, this one is a must! Highly recommended. She studied teaching instead and used her holidays to work on her writing career and complete a Masters’ degree. In between raising three children, working for her husband and renovating houses, she has published six novels. She lives in Sydney, Australia.
