Launched in 2003, the products in the Nerf N-Strike series are among the most notable Nerf Blasters. These Blasters fire foam darts with rubber tips up to a range of 35 feet. This series is designed to resemble real-life munitions and offers customizable attachments, including scopes, shields, and barrel extensions. This series was replaced by the Nerf N-Strike Elite line in 2012, which upgraded to a direct plunger firing mechanism that launches darts up to 75 feet. Nerf launched the Rebelle series in 2013, which includes colors and designs marketed towards girls. In 2019, Nerf introduced the Alpha Strike series, which is a budget friendly Blaster. Where the Mastodon does excel is that its Mega darts offer a very flat initial trajectory when firing parallel to the ground. This means you can get an excellent range of about 40-50 feet without having to aim high and let the darts arc down. Mobility: see Weight. It's really hard shooting round corners without exposing yourself. To do that, you would have to hold it with one hand (see Weight) and your gun would be easily pushed to the side and you would be stupidly inaccurate. Works best in open areas.Loading the magazine is done in the usual NERF manner of, well, just pushing each dart into the top of the mag in the right direction (as indicated by an arrow on the side). Once that’s done and the batteries are in place, all you need to do is slap the magazine into the slot in the underside of the gun and you’re ready for rapid fire. And woah! This thing is super-fun. The Elite darts ping out at a steady pace, with a decent amount of accuracy. I managed a spread of around 20 inches at 20ft from fresh batteries. Distance is quite impressive and plenty good enough for an ammo-sprayer like this. It did manage the claimed 27m range, but with wild inconstency and with no accuracy whatsoever out to that distance. As an intimidating heavy assault weapon, the Mastodon is in a league of its own. It’s big, hard-hitting, rapid-firing and a whole heap of fun. Sure, it isn’t super-long-ranged, but the flat-ish trajectory out to medium distances more than makes up for that. And did I mention that it’s fun?

The mechanics are both an advantage and a disadvantage. It has the conveyor-belt-on-the-jam-door dart feeder system (this might have been the first blaster to do that?). Depending on who you ask, this is great or terrible. I think it is great. I think it feeds worn darts more reliably. Also, if you are keen on arduino, it's not hard to make it a select fire without installing a whole kit. Unfortunately, it means you need three motors if you're doing an upgrade. As well, it means that motor's power is transmitted through plastic gears. This is hasbro, and the gears are good quality, but still. If you want more durability some third party's make cast metal gears. Just keep in mind, these gears are significantly heavier and will slow the rate-of-fire.
