The novel doesn't end in a clinch, but in a battle of the broomsticks played out over the rooftops of Notre Dame. For the first time in a while now, I found myself wishing that I had time to pick up a book and finish it, or considering a change in my exercise routine so that I could take it to the gym and read it on the bike (I didn't, and my hips thank me for that). The characters are beautifully drawn, and I was invested in their well being and how this story was going to work out. It's always hard to talk about a series of books without giving away everything about not only the current volume but the ones before.

I've read three of her books and don't intend to stop there, so I shall see if that idea holds true for her other books. In the latter, the villain is a simple personification of convention, whereas here multiple witches are in play.
