Third concept: I'm so sorry to inform you you've been infected with an undignoused disease. Yes, ladies & gentlemen, this has progressed to you're being infected with a mental disease. Let's recap not only are you causing your fantasy dream world to be hell you're now diseased. The limit of your self-abuse is the limit you will tolerate from other people. If someone abuses you more than you abuse yourself, you walk away, you run, you escape. But if someone abuses you a little less than you abuse yourself, perhaps you stay longer. You still deserve that abuse.”

Although I was not big on the slightly religious undertones in some of the chapters, I do believe that we are here for a reason and if that is the case, something created us. It may be faulty logic to some, but it could also be completely logical. It may not be the God that Christians believe in, and it may not be the God that Muslims believe in, but I can hold true to the fact that there is a creator in all of us. We are our own god. We create our own dream/life. The religious aspect of the book was easily overlooked because of the depth of perception that it gives to living life the way we believe it to be. Over the course of hundreds of years, the naguals were compelled to keep this knowledge a secret from those who planned to misuse it for personal gain. During the European conquest, in particular, the naguals remained in the shadows, fearful of potential abuse of power. So yes, if you want to strengthen your relationships using the concepts of Spirituality, read this book. You will learn lots of cool stuff. I use Notion to take reading notes, plan everything, and run all my businesses. He keeps expounding on this idea that nothing we ever do is bad or wrong, it’s part of humanities disease. And trusting other people with your happiness is a big mistake because they can make you sad if you don’t fulfill their needs. Every human being has a personal dream of life, and that dream is completely different from anyone else’s dream. We dream according to all the beliefs that we have, and we modify our dream according to the way we judge, according to the way we are victimized. That is why dreams are never the same for any two people. In a relationship, we can pretend to be the same, to think the same, to feel the same, to dream the same, but there is no way that can happen. There are two dreamers with two dreams. Every dreamer is going to dream in his own way. That is why we need to accept the differences that exist between two dreamers; we need to respect each other’s dream.”

The book might be helpful to spiritual seekers, but keep in mind that it doesn’t go too deep in it.of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship: A Toltec Wisdom Book by Miguel Ruiz This is one of those perfect books, that sits on my bookshelf, and then miraculously falls into my bag, just as I head away for a long weekend - just when I need it the most. You know the times, those short breaks, when you need to take some time out to try and make sense of the world, and where you fit into it. This book answered those questions perfectly. In fact Don Miguel Ruiz's explanation of the hell that is earth, and how and why we have so foolishly created this for ourselves, was just what I needed to hear. It was exactly the explanation I needed. Currently studying animal welfare, I am often confronted with human actions that make finding a place of 'love' in my heart for the people who inflict these heinous actions, utterly impossible. In fact, there are days I cannot bear even being branded as a 'human' myself when I see the things humans are not only capable of doing, but then, actually DO. I went away wondering if in fact I needed to leave this area of study, as it was so hard for me to handle. But instead, this wonderful gem of a book helped to find explanations for these horrible crimes. And most importantly, it told me this... this will be going on the wall, to remind myself every day, that my shoulders cannot take the weight of everyone else's actions, and nor do they have to. I have tried to do that for far too long!! Happiness can only come from inside of you and is the result of your love. When you are aware that no one else can make you happy, and that happiness is the result of your love, this becomes the greatest mastery of the Toltec: the Mastery of Love.” — don Miguel Ruiz At these words, the joy in the man's heart was strong. He could hardly wait to serve the Master and to express his love for him. The man woke up, and his heart was filled with happiness, because he understood what the Master had taught him. The Master loved him so much that he had sent three people to give him the greatest lesson: The Master lives within everyone. When you give food to the one who is starving, when you give water to the one who is thirsty, when you cover the one who is cold, you give your love to the Master. Table of Contents:

Toltecs are not a nation, race, or religion. Truth be told, if you can live from your heart and incarnate unconditional love, you too, are a Toltec. “Artists of the spirit,” Toltecs are a society of artists and scientists who organized to unearth and instill ancient spiritual teachings and practices. The Toltecs have never required allegiance or claimed to be the only source of wisdom and truth. In fact, they pay high regard to the various masters and their spiritual approaches all around the globe. The one who has the little need is the one who controls the whole relationship. You can see this dynamic so clearly because usually in every relationship there is one who loves the most and the other who doesn’t love, who only takes advantage of the one who gives his or her heart. You can see the way they manipulate each other, their actions and reactions, and they are just like the provider and the drug addict.”

If you are into reading, you’ll come across some more specific terms such as schizophrenia, paranoia, Alzheimer’s psychosis, and others. Also, these diseases are a direct consequence of our mind’s impaired ability to heal the wounds, from the moment they surface. In an ideal sense, if a relationship has to be perfect, then the people involved must be mind readers. Soon we forget who we really are, and we start to live our images. We create not just one image, but many different images according to the different groups of people we associate with. p20 When the lies you’ve carried with you throughout life are removed, you then must clean the wounds. The wounds where those lies were deeply embedded. To do this, you have to forgive those who hurt you. Forgive yourself. No matter how egregious the mistake, or how painful the hurt they caused was, forgive. Y ou’ll know forgiveness has set in when you can revisit a wound or touch its scar and it doesn’t hurt. You don’t retract or wince, and you don’t shy away from looking at it. The only way to master love is to practice love. You don't need to justify your love, you don't need to explain your love; you just need to practice your love. Practice creates the master. p71 This book really speaks towards the way society can implant negative thoughts on us, and how we can be raised to believe them. We are all born innocent and full of love, and somewhere along the way we learn how to be distrustful, and how to be hurt, and to be hurtful in return. Our parents learned this while they grew, and they (along with the rest of society) then teach it to us as we grow up, and the cycle continues ever onward. Personally, I would hope that I have the strength to stop that cycle, and leave my children full of love and respect.
