We create our own dream/life. The religious aspect of the book was easily overlooked because of the depth of perception that it gives to living life the way we believe it to be. Over the course of hundreds of years, the naguals were compelled to keep this knowledge a secret from those who planned to misuse it for personal gain. During the European conquest, in particular, the naguals remained in the shadows, fearful of potential abuse of power. Our parents learned this while they grew, and they (along with the rest of society) then teach it to us as we grow up, and the cycle continues ever onward. Personally, I would hope that I have the strength to stop that cycle, and leave my children full of love and respect.
