Razer tries to make the Huntsman V2 worth it by giving it an 8,000 Hz polling rate, meaning the keyboard sends a report to your PC up to 8 times more per second frequently than a standard gaming keyboard. That may go unnoticed, but the quality of the optical mechanical switches that characterize Razer’s Huntsman lineup won’t, especially with the sound dampening foam. Taken as a whole, however, the Huntsman V2 Analog is an exceptionally good gaming keyboard. The key switches feel smooth and responsive, and the analog functionality doesn't impact how the keys actually feel at all. The added resistance does, however, and I would consider these some of the best feeling keys I’ve ever used in a gaming keyboard. The extra key weight also helps when learning how to use its analog functions. The camera flips again and we see the keyboard being dropped into an acoustic test chamber that is lined with foam. The camera pulls out and transitions to a full shot of the Razer Huntsman V2 keyboard, complete with Razer Chroma RGB lighting and its ergonomic wrist rest. With a mouse, you can see the cursor glide across a screen, and the higher the polling rate, the more often the mouse's position on screen gets updated (assuming you have a monitor with a fast-enough refresh rate to take advantage of those extra data points).

Though the Huntsman V2 TKL might seem light on features, it really isn’t. It’s fully programmable with on-the-fly Macro recording, has Hypershift capability that lets you have secondary functionality for every key on the keyboard and about as much RGB customization as a gamer could want. Synapse lets you store countless profiles on the app, and up to 4 profiles on the keyboard itself so you can bring them to another PC without Synapse. However, RGB settings and functions that require Synapse don’t carry over. Customizable actuation (not customizable reset) is something we’ve seen in other analog keyboards, like the Wooting Two. You can also find this feature on the SteelSeries Apex Pro OLED, but its SteelSeries OmniPoint switches aren’t pressure-sensitive.

Like a controller, but customizable, RGB and expensive

On the 10fastfingers.com typing test, I averaged 119.5 words per minute (WPM) and 94.98% accuracy. That’s 1.5 WPM faster than my usual speed and about 3% less accurate. I thought I might have a greater speed boost, because the keys are so easy to actuate, but I think trepidation about accidentally mispressing slowed me down. Feeling natural and comfortable while keeping a key pressed, say, halfway, will take some getting used to though. Since these switches are linear, at first it felt challenging to maintain just the right amount of pressure to achieve the amount of acceleration I wanted with my car. Worthless, no extra gaming keys for macros, when will they learn. Most games just have way too many commands, and can really use a good number of extra gaming keys on the left.

The new features for the Huntsman V2 Analog make it arguably worth its lofty price tag, especially for gamers looking to get a streamlined hardware advantage over their opponents. You can adjust the actuation points for every key, allowing you to set your desired activation depth between 1.5mm to 3.6mm in increments of 0.1mm. The Razer Huntsman V2 offers stellar gaming performance. I tested it across multiple first-person shooters, RPGs, and even took a respite in Final Fantasy 14 before sitting down to draw my conclusions, and there simply wasn’t a case when the keyboard was less than ridiculously responsive. The added layer of programmability afforded by Synapse also allowed me to keep custom keymaps and onboard profiles for individual games, so I didn’t have to go hunting through settings before launching and diving into a game. I don’t consider myself a competitive gamer, but in both Call of Duty and Battlefield, the Huntsman V2 had me feeling nimble and ready to react. These wires have been on Razer’s optical switches since the beginning, so to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, I put the V2 side by side with the Huntsman Tournament Edition with Gen 1 switches and the Huntsman V2 Analog. Both of the other keyboards have a similar rattle, but it’s masked by the added noise of bottoming out the key. You can barely hear it in normal use. On the Huntsman V2, you hear it with every keystroke.Configure them to pause, play, skip and tweak everything from brightness to volume—the ultimate convenience as you enjoy yourentertainment.
