Aside from this little story, what predominates on my skin other than the jasmine, is a shy rose. Shy because my skin doesn’t bring it forward. The star is jasmine, while all the other notes simply enhance it. It feels and smells rich, rounded, warm, well put together. Nothing screams, nothing smells out of place. The sandalwood is creamy, real sandalwood, the oakmoss albeit not strong, is wonderful. And the civet, my beloved civet, has manners, simply providing the necessary warmth that Joy needs to shine. And the musk, beautiful sexy musk! I didn’t think it’d be this good, and I’m happy to report it holds up to its status. Times like these I wish I could time travel and buy perfume from when everyone thought it would be this good forever. Trust me, if you come along bottles that have the baudruchage seal intact, invest. Perfumes so well made that stand the test of time decades later, willing to unfold under a perfume lovers nose! Joy doesn't change much on my skin.it's brighter and more fresh when first sprayed and gradually gets warmer and musky.it has a lovely musk.warm and silky Zanon, Johanna " La face cachée de la Lune: les ateliers de couture de la maison Jean Patou dans l’entre-deux-guerres", in Apparence(s) 7 (2017). The bright aldehyde chirped loudly and made a deafening sound, like an alarm, to make people around you retreat far away, so as not to be impacted by the aftermath. Distance produces beauty. Gold Woman has a lovely, clean floral fragrance with a soapy opening. Lily-of-the-valley and jasmine stand out above the others as it softens into a really wonderful white floral heart. The base's woodsy and animalic notes add depth, but the fragrance is consistently light and airy. It is elegant and suitable all year round.

Joy stands for forever, I'm appreciated to know once we had this kind of beautiful thing in our lives, hope people can always enjoy what Joy wants to tell us: joy is around you wherever or whenever you're. PS This is for the VINTAGE version, EDT is 85% VoL. Middle notes : At the heart of the fragrance lies Bulgarian Rose, Tuberose, Carnation, Jasmine, Chrysanthemum and Ylang-Ylang Middle notes : At the heart of the fragrance lies Boronia, Rosemary, Amaryllis, Ylang-Ylang, Lily, Jasmine, Lilac and Lily-of-the-Valley An ounce of Joy had a retail price of 40 dollars, the most expensive perfume at the time. As told by Emmanuelle Polle, "What the clients would soon learn was that this ounce of perfume was produced through the extraction of some 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses. It was a gargantuan perfume, requiring huge quantities of fresh flowers. The couturier-perfumer was not one for artifice, be it in the way silk was worked or the walk of a model on the runway, or the ingredients of a perfume. The same line of conduct prevailed in his perfumes and his fashions: the quest for naturalness and the very best raw materials." Kerleo stepped down in 1999 [6] appointing Jean-Michel Duriez as house perfumer. Duriez creations include "Un Amour de Patou" (1998), "Enjoy" (2003) and "Sira des Indes" (2006).It lasts around 6 hours and projects well for the first hour and then becomes more measured. I use it in different climates, including hot days - the heat makes the flowers of this perfume vibrate even more, becoming even more alive and exuberant.

The discontinuation of Jean Patou's fragrances, in my opinion, was one of the biggest losses that perfumery has had in recent years even though it was somewhat predictable: while French brands such as Chanel, Dior and Guerlain prospered in the market (thanks to millions spent on advertising/cheapening production costs), Jean Patou followed a noble but risky path — they focused on extreme quality and luxury without compromise, perfumes of unique nobility but without advertising, generating neither profit nor fame. Everyone knows or has heard of Chanel No. 5, but JOY by Jean Patou, which is just as big, gradually fell into oblivion and was finally discontinued. Joy? For Dior's latest creation, it smells quite flowery. The opening is pleasantly citric and fresh with bergamot and mandarin, whereby the bergamot takes over the main part here. Quite fast the whole matter mutes itself a little and a clean rose appears. Jasmine and musk add a dash of fluffy creaminess. All in all, the fragrance does not develop excessive sweetness, but it remains rather bland and somewhat boring. Patchouli, sandalwood and cedar show their presence with extreme restraint. The shelf life is, like the Sillage, quite manageable.

In my Joy EDP (the bad one, the one nobody wants) I like the aldehydes and the way the metallic adjacent not-rose flowers coat the rose and its vibrations. JOY is created of rare flowers in unique concentration of 10600 flowers of jasmine and 28 dozens of roses which adorn the exceptional heart of this perfume. With the time JOY attains enormous success and became the second best selling perfume of all times (the first best-selling is the legendary Chanel N°5).

In my favourite perfumery, where I hadn't been in for a while (I'm pretty happy right now), a Joy sample was waiting for me. You can spray yourself generously with it, after only one sprayer the scent was in 10 minutes no longer to be guessed. It is true that - at the time (until about the early 1990's), "Joy de Patou" was the most expensive fragrance to buy (maybe not to produce though) in the world, but as the years went by, tons of other fragrances became much more expensive to buy than "Joy"... (I'm thinking here about these companies for instance , which sell their fragrances for a much more bigger prices than Patou...:Parfum de Nicolai, Comme des garçons, Montale, Amouage, Maison Martin Margiela, etc... The JOY I smell is pure and transparent jasmine, which is slightly different from the real flowers in nature... Tuberose, who plays the role of the spirit behind it, is tightly attached to the jasmine and follows it like a shadow. By the way, my Sira des Indes (which I like) are all P&G. I have never run across a Designer Parfums bottle. The polarized experience reflects the characteristics of JOY itself - it has a dual character, or it is straight and rude, or it is beautiful and grand.
