There are some books that I really adore, and I don’t mind rereading them. “ Into the Silence” is such a kind of book that I am not reluctant to reread. Here, the story of the Everest expedition is as captivating as the writing itself. The book’s author “ Wade Davis” has explained everything very comprehensively, and to be honest with you, it has an excellent descriptive style. Although his kind responsibility and heroic effort have been exposed in poor light in the book of Krakauer, he was considered a hero to among survivors of that disaster. It’s true that after the disaster, his bravery in rescuing his 3 clients made him the main protagonist.

If you read Krakauer’s classic Into Thin Air, you have to read Boukreev’s The Climb: Tragic Ambitions on Everest. These books are controversial, yet engaging and very informative on the tragic accident of the 1966 Everest Disaster. This book is about Boukreev’s response to Krakauer’s criticisms of him in his book (Into Thin Air). When you read it, think yourself as a judge and try to find out the facts on what had really happened on that day. Almost 17 years later, he was at Camp 2 in May 1996. The tragedy was unfolding above, but he was able to get to Everest Base Camp to help coordinate the rescue efforts thanks to 24 years of experience as an officer in the British Army. Wild in the Himalayas: Love and tragedies from Paris to Kathmandu He came out of the disaster with one other person physically and emotionally ravaged, but also as a tenacious and instinctive survivor. Photo by Meg Atteberry of Fox in the Forest The Summit: How Triumph Turned to Tragedy on K2’s Deadliest Days years in the making, this is one of the most interesting and well-researched Everest books on this list. The day of the summit, Lou and his fellow climbers faced a decision: to summit or not to summit. They faced the internal struggle of what to do when you’re close but out of time. This is a great choice if you want a book about Everest from a woman’s perspective. Buried in the Sky These books about Everest promise to be thought-provoking while also transporting you there. Additionally, they make for great reads if you enjoy isolated settings.

Late in the day, 23 climbers and guides were caught in a blizzard and left disoriented and without oxygen on the descent as darkness approached. Last Hours on Everest: The Gripping Story of Mallory and Irvine’s Fatal Accident Into Thin Air is a bestselling nonfiction book based on the personal experiences of the Mt. Everest Disaster. Jon Krakauer expounds on the challenges of climbing Mt. Everest with emotional clarity.Mt Everest is in the news again, with the photo of the traffic jam of people waiting to get to the summit going viral and climbers dying (11 so far). If you’ve read about the 1996 disaster, none of the headlines (‘too crowded’‘too many inexperienced climbers’) will come as a revelation—just a repetition of the same warnings about the dangers of climbing Mt Everest two decades on. Why are people so interested in climbing Mt Everest? “Because it’s there” was British climber George Mallory’s answer. He died on the north face of Everest in June 1924, and his body was found, frozen in the snow, 75 years later. He may have been the first to summit Mt Everest, but it’s unlikely. Mallory was a schoolteacher and a friend of the author Robert Graves. Graves writes quite a bit about Mallory in his memoir, Goodbye to All That, which is a beautiful book about the agony of World War I. Mallory survived the Great War, only to die climbing Everest. In August 1979, Mike Trueman set sail from Southwest Wales to Cornwall when he was caught in a storm in the Irish Sea for 24 hours. He faced force-10 gales in what became known as the Fastnet Disaster, taking the lives of 15 sailors off the coast of Ireland. Reading stories based on Mount Everest fascinates me, despite the heartbreaking Everest expedition tales. The glory of climbing the world’s highest top is a great achievement for serious mountaineers. It’s also a greatest achievement when the toughest guys in the world attempt on the summit without supplemental oxygen. On 8 May, 1978, Reinhold Messner did it along with his mate Peter Haveler (An Austrian born mountaineer). They were the first men to climb Mt. Everest solo without the use of supplemental oxygen, and Sherpa support, ropes, crevasse ladders, and radio. Additionally, whether or not they were the first people to summit Everest remains a hotly contested subject. Many of the 23 climbers who went on the three expeditions were either former soldiers or medics who had seen action during WWI.
